This thing was nothing like advertised. It got stuck in the first piece of wood I tried to split and now it is stuck because it won’t back out because of how it is designed.

This did not work well at all on the wood I tried it on.

Continually binds up, and then your drill snaps your wrist. Several times after it bound up, I had to remove it from the drill chuck and get a hammer to pound it through. Might as well just use a traditional wedge.

I tried using the product on a very dry piece of oak firewood. The bit became stuck and I couldn’t reverse it. Finally had to use mallet to get it unstuck. I’m not sure what size drill was used in the ads but a 1/2” Dewalt got smoked, literally! Would not recommend this item.

I was so excited to get this because I had so much wood to split. Just like other reviewers said all it did was drill holes in the end of every piece I tried. It didn’t matter where I put it on the end of each pice all it did was make a hole! Do not waste your money!

These are a good way to start cracks in a log. You do need a strong drill. They would not work with my basic household drill. I had a friend with a drill used in construction that he let me use to test these out. How I got them to make a log crack was I used my drill and a wood tip to make a starting hole. Then I used the big drill with this tip. After a lot of pushing, it made the wood split a short distance at the top. Then I used a hatchet with a hammer to finish breaking the log into smaller sections. It did do what was described. It split the log at the top. It didn’t split the log enough that it fell apart into sections. It took a lot longer than I anticipated. If you want a few pieces of wood split, and don’t have the strength to swing an ax, it is probably worth the effort. I feel that I may be missing something about how to use it with a better outcome. It looked like it should much easier in the product description. Overall the actual product is made of heavy materials, and seems to be made well.

I liked that this set came with multiple attachment options but for this review I only used the standard drill chuck and the smaller of the splitting bits. I am not sure what kind of wood I was trying it on but it wasn't fully dry. I was using a cordless ryobi drill to test it as well. going about 1-2" from the end of the log and about 2" from the split edge it seemed to do a decent job of splitting chunks off. If I went too aggressive on the size it would just stop the drill. In those cases I was able to just tip the drill back and forth and get it back out as it was only about 1/3rd of the way in the wood. For the heck of it I tried it on a piece of 2x4 and it was splitting chunks off with no issue. So it seems like it should work really well on softer woods atleast with the cordless drill. But the drier the wood the better, I plan on testing the hammer drill attachment as I expect that will work alot better on the harder woods. Overall for the cost it seems well worth it so far.
