Many pen blanks are thrown out because of inadequate chip removal. The flutes of a Fisch pen drill are noticeably different when compared to standard drill bit flutes. With less clogging, better tip geometry and faster chip extraction, the heat created by the drilling process is dramatically decreased. The deep flute shape clears the chips without repeatedly having to back the bit out during the cut. No vibrations or wandering of the drill bit during the drilling process. Overall length is 150 mm.

Definitely an improvement of the several drill bits for pens I’ve used over the years. Cuts into wood with a sweet sounding crunch. Comes out the bottom without splitting or cracking. Minus one star because I have to back off to clear wood caught up when drill starts squealing. Also like the extra length that clears blanks that might be a little longer. Definitely a keeper. Bought two of them because of good reviews of others.

This pen drill bit is vastly superior to a normal bits. It plows through pen blanks like butter without having to back out every 1/2 inch. Nice an long too..

This bit is very sharp, does not need to be backed out in advances through the wood with very little pressure needed. The main problem is that it is too flexible and the hole is not in the same spot when did exits the other end. This is fine for pen blanks but it ruined a pepper mill that I was working on.

I don't understand the one star reviews. Have these people actually used these bits? I have, and I have used them a lot. They work so well I have been replacing my other bits one at a time with Fisch pen drilling bits and I no longer buy the inferior bits. These run cooler and truer than other bits, so there is less (read NO) trouble with blow out. They also exit cleanly, so no need to do anything fancy to prevent tear out on the back side of the blank. Expensive, but worth it.

Great bit for pen makers! The extra length is a real plus, and the flutes do an excellent job of removing waste to leave a clean hole. We've used it on wood and acrylic blanks, and it's far better than other bits we've used. Well worth the price!
