Works so much better then the rubber ones on the market has a built in design to keep leaves and other debris from getting into your rain barrels.

I installed this diverter near the top of the downspout and added a 90 degree coupler that a water hose connects to. It worked amazingly well! I collected 300 gallons of rainwater in the first major rain. (The rain storm produced 2.1 inches of rain.)I can now water my garden with all gravity flow watering and no tap water!

It worked yesterday with a small rain. The rain was short but gave me about 5 gallons in the 55 gal barrel.Installation is pretty simple. But the application doesn't explain how difficult it will be to connect the bottom. The hacksaw left some ragged edges. The top was easy to get into the diverter. The bottom took more work to make it fit. IMO-I think the diverter bottom should be more forgiving to allow the 3x4 downspout to fit. It took me about 10 minutes to get the bottom to slip on. I wish in the description that it would specifically say the diverter is a garden hose connection and that you can use any size length to connect to any type of container. Thank you

I purchased this rainwater colander kit to help fill my large rain barrel (265-gallon tank). After receiving the kit, I decided to place it on a downspout coming off the back roof. My concern was the spout was facing the street, so I was hoping it wasn't too noticeable. I installed the kit on May 30, 2021. When I set up my tank, I had water from a previous container that I put in this tank. That water filled the tank to the first railing on the bottom. Since May 30th (29 days ago) the kit has gathered enough water to reach two rails above where I started. I took pictures to show 1) how the colander isn't noticeable and 2) how effective it is at collecting water. The installation took ~25 mins. I used a hacksaw to cut the spout (that wasn't quiet as my neighbor asked me what I was doing). I removed the bottom support band for the downspout. After cutting the spout I used needle nose plies to straighten any places where the metal was slightly bent. The colander was placed into the upper portion of the downspout and the lower portion was joined by inserting it into the designed seam. One addition I did was to insert two sheet metal screws through the downspout and colander to ensure it was secure. I then reinstalled the support band. I had to create new holes as the pipe changed position because of the inserted kit. I'm glad to say nothing leaks from it when it rains. I connected the hose and ran it to my tank. I waited on the first rain since I live in a two-story house and wasn't going to climb up to run water for a test. During the first rain, the hose in the tank was running like someone turned on a faucet. I also check the bottom of the downspout to see how much water was bypassing the colander. It was minimal. I would say this was a great buy.********** Update **********I wanted to post an updated picture of the water tank in case you question if this kit works. This is a 265-gallon tank and was installed 42 days ago. Note the picture of the almost full tank.

Even with a light rain, it catches a steady stream from the downspout. Yes, the device may appear to be defective in design, but only to someone who does not understand that the water flow inside the downspout is actually mostly on the inner surface. This device catches that surface flow, directing it into the threaded hose outlet, while still allowing water to pass down through it when the flow in the hose backs up. Clever design, easy to use!

The Flex-Drain 37043 Catch-A-Raindrop Rainwater Colander Kit, 3 x 4-Inch, White is easy to install. I like that it has a large pass through. Of course the downside of that is you collect less of the rainfall during a heavy rain. The other diverter I was considering had only a 1-inch circular pass though which seems inadequate for a 3x4 downspout. Now that I've had rain I can complete this review. The diverter works great. All of the water was diverted during a typical afternoon rain shower in Florida and the rain barrel filled quickly. Once full the water backed up correctly to the diverter and the water continued down the downspout as it should. Have had no problem with water coming out the top of the diverter, used no caulk or sealant of any type. I did add a screw in the middle top to hold the diverter on the downspout and a second in the middle bottom to hold the outflow downspout in place. My one criticism is that it would be nice if the outside would be taller on the top. Water does tend to come out the top during anything more than a light rain. Caulk fixes this problem, but then the caulk makes it more difficult to remove the diverter to clean the colander. Another 1/2" to 3/4" on the outside would make a big difference.Works so well I ordered a second for another downspout.

I replaced my gutters with larger ones and the downspouts were larger also. I had this model in a 2" by 3" and it works great, but would no longer fit the new downspouts. This larger version is the same design as the smaller one but works with the larger downspouts perfectly! Plenty of water, no debris in rain barrel and a quick install due to it's simple design. Highly recommend!
