I'm sure this product works great, but I made a mistake when purchasing—so be sure to read the details carefully. I have an Apple i phone 16" with a USB-C port and bought a FLIR camera, assuming "Apple compatible" meant it would work. It doesn't. Then, I purchased a USB-C charger adapter but didn't get one that supports OTG. Now, I have two options: buy a Lightning-to-USB-C adapter that is OTG compatible or contact FLIR to exchange it for the correct thermal camera. Read the fine print!

I trained and certified on $10k FLIR T530 equipment, and I have to say that this FLIR Pro LT model (iPhone Lightning) does exceptionally well for what it is designed to do.As the mantra goes- in IR, it is all about Focus, Focus, Focus.Aligning the visible light camera depending on your distance yields marked improvement in your scans, as does maintaining a consistent distance and blocking of your own heat signature on your target. The fact that this device is self powered means you can tether and position the equipment to further avoid reflective degradation of your target due to emissivity issues.I was skeptical of the performance to cost ratio, but I liked the results of the iPhone Lightning Pro LT model so much, I upgraded to the full Pro.The battery life is no mystery- FLIR fully discloses this in the user manual. 45 minutes to 1 hour of scan time.I've included a T530 scan, and 3 others from the LT.Happy Scanning!

Fabulous device with great features built in. The only connection between it and your phone being the connector makes it a bit delicate and cumbersome to use, but it works well as long as you are cautious. Some aftermarket connection adapters, developed for specific phone models, might allow for a more robust connection for users that require a more robust design due to extensive use or challenging environment.

Thrilled with the performance of this camera using the free flir app (also excellent) on android. I do electronic ckt and PCB design and primarily use it with my phone (pixel 3A) to image PCBs for thermal analysis. It views in real time and optionally detects the hottest (and/or coldest) spot, and can also be configured with a few other (reposition-able) spots to report the specific temperatures at those points. Displayed temp values update very rapidly (seems around 10 times per sec or so). Saved images are saved as readily viewable .JPG files, but those files also invisibly include all the thermal data for every pixel in the image. These images can be further analyzed on a PC using the "FLIR tools" app (downloaded free from FLIR). In that app the image color scheme and range can be scaled/changed. You can display spot temps, average or peak or minimum temps within user defined regions.I generally use the camera at a distance of around 6 inches and get fine results. The only downside I've noticed when using it that close is that the optical image overlay on the thermal image does not align very well, so I just disable that feature.Quick start usage guide (for android):Charge the camera. (must be charged using it's USB-C charging jack - does not get charged at all from phone)Download/install the Flir phone app on google play.Optionally download Flir Tools (PC app) from FLIR website. Camera works without this, but allows later analysis of saved images. You might need to provide your proof of purchase details to download. Before plugging the (charged) camera into the phone, first turn it on by pressing the button on bottom of camera. LED in button will light. Not sure if this is just with mine, but the button doesn't seem to depress when pushed, but just the pressure of my finger on the button turns it on.Once on, now plug it onto the phone. Note that the knob behind the USB plug can be turned to adjust the length of the plug to fit a recessed USB port due to a phone case. The (previously downloaded) app should automatically start within a few secs of when the camera is plugged in. If it doesn't automatically start, open the app directly. The camera views the scene in real time, and snapshot images are saved to your phone just as normal photos. They can be transferred (as JPG) to your PC via the normal methods (email, USB, etc) where they can be further viewed, analyzed, printed using the Flir Tools app.

So far I am very impressed with this product. I did my research before as it was an expensive purchase and I am glad I went with this one. I have used other thermal cameras in the past and have not been impressed but the quality of the images on this unit is very impressive. I think the stand out feature is the face it blends a actual picture with a thermal image so you keep the importance information like labeling on a fuse board. I am impressed by the accuracy of the temperature and the fact you can make changes to the image after the photo has been taken allowing you today choose the best colour setting or move the temperature point. It's expensive bit of kit but when you compare it to the equivalent spec camera it's actually quite cheap. For this kind of price you wouldn't be getting very good images.I have highy expect this will be getting lots of uses at work been an electrician both diagnosis of faults and when doing electrical safety checks and will make use stand out from the others not using this technology. Also a nice added point is the USB c connection is extendable so it fits on even with my large case something I was concerned about before purchasing.
