(Unlike the positive reviews here that got a FREE comb, I bought mine and so will speak freely.) Look, a flea comb is a flea comb – they all work fine in the hands of a person knowing what they are doing. But adding small LED lights might make it different and more useful. This is what they tried to do but failed. They placed only one small LED light at the tip and one at the base of the comb without any in the middle, where you need it most. So, the lights have no use and are only a gimmick.

It works quite well for a flea comb but the light feature I'm not crazy about. Just needing to use a screwdriver to open and close the battery compartment is more than I want to deal with for a flea comb. Why there isn't a battery compartment that I can either slide open and closed or twist open or shut is beyond me. While the light can make it easier to see fleas, the light isn't that bright to make that big of a difference. Such a good idea I would have liked to have seen developed with more precision.I can get a good grip on the handle and my pets seem to enjoy being combed out with it. So, there is value in this flea comb. I'm also getting a good deal of loose fur and flea stuff. It's just not worth it for the light feature and having to deal with getting the battery compartment open and closed.

I really wanted to like this lighted flea comb. The prospect of being able to actually spot fleas and ticks where they hide as you comb your dog was intriguing. However, when I finally received it and put it to the test, it didn't work as well as I thought. The following is the impression and the result that I got from using it on my long coated little friend. The LED light is more of a gimmick than a practical amenity. It isn't bright enough to be useful and it makes the comb unnecessarily bulky. I have used a regular flea comb and a LED flashlight to accomplish the same thing but only they work better for me. It takes two AAA batteries and the battery compartment is located in the handle (hence the bulkiness). You'll need a small Phillips screwdriver to open/close the compartment door. The teeth of the comb aren't tightly spaced enough for tiny fleas and eggs in my opinion. I have a cheapo flea comb that has much finer, much tightly spaced teeth than this comb. This comb has approximately 13 teeth per inch per row according to my measurement. The two rows are about 1/16" apart and interlaced/offset, so the comb has effectively 25 teeth per inch, give or take a few. This may work for adult fleas and ticks, but probably not for the eggs. To be effective, you want a comb with much smaller and tighter teeth. All in all, this comb leaves a lot to be desired. The LED light isn't bright enough and the teeth aren't small and tight enough neither. Also, the comb feels bulky and not nimble enough for me. The build quality is just average. Not saying this is a terrible comb but there are better ones to be had in this price range.

We don't get a lot of fleas where I live, but we got a heck of a lot of ticks. So many ticks that already a family member has contracted Lyme disease. And, naturally, what do we have but a couple of big brown dogs. One is an American Water Spaniel, the other is a giant standard poodle. Both are the same shade of brown as a tick. Both have thick and curly coats.I'm constantly checking them every time they go outside. This is an additional tool in the tick fighting arsenal.First I go over them with a lint roller, and then I use this come around their feet and hind quarters as well as the neck and ears.Much easier to see with this comb.

This is a nice idea for anyone who wants to keep an eye on their dog's coat. The comb is nice - with two rows of tines and they aren't sharp or uncomfortable. The grip is the perfect size and feels comfortable in my hand. I think that the light is very useful - not just for checking for fleas but for looking for any sores, bruises or other skin problems on your pet. The only possible complaint I'd offer would be that it is a pain to install/change the batteries, as it requires a tiny Phillips screwdriver (the same sizes used for computers and small electronics).

This flea comb does catch fleas. I compared it to a regular flea comb I have and they are very similar with the tines very close together. I'm just not real sure how the light helps to catch fleas....maybe it attracts them to the comb. I remember years ago having a light and sticky cardboard setup to catch fleas in my house and it worked pretty good. The battery compartment takes a tiny screwdriver to open it which I don't like. Most battery compartment are a snap-on type and don't require specialized tools but this does. The plastic handle doesn't feel all that solid and I think just the right drop at the right height will end the light portion of this comb. That said, it works, and it lights up the area being combed. I wonder if it will work on nits just in case a child should come home from school contaminated. I don't have any way of testing it for that (thank goodness!) but the light would really help in that case.
