Although the overall quality and construction of this freewheel appears to be good quality, it is not as technologically similar to the common single speed gear it is replacing. Most new single speed freewheeling installed on “fixies” in the USA have a freewheel gear (usually 16t) that requires a special tool other than a chain whip to remove. This Phoenix gear from Amazon does not require this tool, but once it goes onto the hub, will not come back of without destroying the this freewheel gear. If you intend to swap different tooth sizes on your hub DON’T purchase this particular item. I included a picture of this freewheel (gold/brass color) next to the original (silver/stainless) freewheel to show you what to look for. Look for a freewheel gear that has the internal notches if you want to swap gears later on.
