Product Description

3-1/2" (Dia.) Raised Panel Bit w/Backcutters (Quadra-Cut)

Amazon.com

Designed for the serious woodworker, the Freud 99-566 Quadra-Cut - 3-1/2 Inch Dia. Bevel Profile Raised Panel Router Bit with Back Cutter 3/4-Inch Stock - 1/2-Inch Shank features a non-stick Perma-Shield coating and Freud's patented Quadra-Cut design for a smoother finish that requires no rework. Quadra-Cut employs four cutting blades, rather than the industry standard of two, allowing you to create smooth raised panels on all composition materials, including plywood, hardwood, and softwood. Thanks to its patented back-cut design, the panels it produces are flush and accurate. And because it's constructed with Freud's exclusive TiCo Hi-Density Carbide MicroGrain material, this durable router bit is designed to last.

Quadra-Cut Design for a Consistently Clean Finish
The exclusive Quadra-Cut design uses four cutters for a flawless finish. This innovative cutter design works by utilizing two of the cutters for an upward cutting action, while the other two cutters simultaneously cut downward. The result is an amazingly smooth finish that requires no rework.

Back-Cutting Design for Smooth, Professional Paneling
If architectural accuracy is a priority to you, the 99-566 is your answer. Thanks to its back-cutting design, this router bit can produce panels that are absolutely flush with a doorframe and have a full 1-1/2 inch reveal.

Use the 99-566 Raised Panel Router Bit with Back Cutter on any table-mounted portable router that accepts a 1/2-inch shank for creating professional-quality raised panels on doors and paneling, as well as decorative tops, plaques, and molding. The resulting panels will exhibit a glassy smoothness, even when you're tackling cross-grain applications.

Create a classic double-sided look on your panels with the patented 54-562 radius back cutter--or, if you're looking for a more contemporary appearance, replace it with the optional 54-560 square back cutter. To give you compatibility with most stile and rail cutters, the kit includes shims that allow for tongue thickness adjustments.

The 99-566 features a one-inch carbide height that easily accommodates stock measuring 3/4 inches.

Durable Design with Protective Coating to Resist Heat and Corrosion
Freud equips all of their router bits with their exclusive TiCo Hi-Density MicroGrain carbide for maximum durability and cutting life. In addition, Freud shields their bits from heat, rust, corrosion and wear by coating all of their Quadra-Cut Router Bits with their exclusive non-stick, red Perma-SHIELD coating.

The 99-566 Raised Panel Router Bit with Back Cutter is three inches long with a 1/2-inch shank, a 3/16-inch small radius, and an overall diameter of 3-1/2 inches. Freud cutting tools are backed by the Freud Limited Lifetime Cutting Tool Warranty to ensure customer satisfaction with every purchase.

As always Freud provides superior machining and sharpness. This raised panel bit work’s excellent so far. I’ve only cut 4 panels but the edges are very crisp with no tear out. Adjust router speed accordingly and you will be happy with this bit.

I made raised panel cabinet doors with it and it performed very well. Panels came exactly to expectations.

Finally got this router bit due to shipping delays but was expected due to Christmas. Tried to find this router bit in Canada (KMS, Elite, Home Depot) but couldn’t find one or order it. Exactly what I needed to make raised panel doors with a back cutter

The bit looks wonderfully made, but a note to buyers, there is no bearing on this bit! (I did not see that fact in the description, though the picture clearly does not show one)If you are using a fence, that is great, but if you have to route a cathedral top panel, this will NOT work, unless you use the collar/spacer as a bearing, which will heat up to wood burning temperatures very quickly.I am unfortunately doing ached top panels.

3 1/2 Diameter is a lot larger than you think! Most important thing I would point out to perspective buyer is to be sure your router table can support this bit. My opening barely worked. My adjustable MDF fence faceplates would not adjust enough to avoid the bit so i removed them, and clamped them in place. I will craft some new faceplates for this bit to avoid that stress in the future.Router table aside, the bit does great work. As with every Freud bit i've purchased i have no tear out and don't need to sand or fix anything. fantastic results and super pleased.

the 2+2 panel cutter does a great job of making nice clean panels. I have used this cutter a couple times and have nothing but praise for it.

Because of its size, it was important to me that I pay for assured quality. I made the right choice. The bit is certainly huge and ships in an good case. It was too wide for my 2.25HP Bosch 1613AEVS and so I had to use a 1-1/2 HP adjustable speed Craftsman at its lowest speed. It's installed under a Bosch router table that itself was barely able to accept the bit (it did slightly touch the wood fence inserts, though. No concerns there.) The lower power still proved sufficient for cutting through solid cherry very cleanly.I chose to make three passes of about 3/8" per. It never bogged down and never scored the panel. The lack of a bearing really didn't seem to be an issue for me as it was a minor issue for others, and that's why I chose to stick with a 5-star rating. No doubt it was loud and there was some level of vibration but I attribute that more to my router than the bit. As you might expect, it kicks out a lot of sawdust.I joined the boards with #10 biscuits and, unfortunately too late, forgot that where they're used could be a problem when using this bit. Yeah, a couple of them were slightly revealed as nice now-decorative triangles. The back cutter was the driving reason for choosing this bit over others; a time-saving option, to be sure. You may be able to compromise on other bits, which I sometimes do, but given the special nature of this one, it was the right decision.

This bit does an excellent job cross grain routing difficult to machine woods. The only thing I think is a little hokey is that it does not have a roller bearing to push the wood against. Its not a big deal because it really doesn't effect your ability to use the bit but at $90-$100 I think it should have a bearing. I would purchase this again.
