Good cheap ATO unit. Only thing I dont like about it is the blue light will start flashing that it is filling up the tank but nothing is happening. Hours later it will actually fill the tank. So, the sensor tells the LED to blink meaning the tank is filling but doesn't actually power the pump until another threshold is met.

I have these on 2 nano tanks with one reservoir and they help keep the tanks looking clean and enough water for the fish to be happy

I’ve been struggling with evaporation in my 120L open Aquarium and this product has made that problem a thing of the past.Using an 18L slimline upright food container as the dechlorinated water reservoir and a smart plug (not required, but just for added safety incase the level sensor malfunctions) to control when it comes on and also to not have the blue light it emits in standby mode showing at night.Although not recommended I use it also to top up after 20-30% waterchanges by power it OFF/ON with the smart plug when topping up.Noise level is very quiet, pump power is great, build quality it good and functionality it ticks all the boxes as an ATO for my freshwater aquarium.Been using it 2 weeks now.

I hope your aquarium is not in your bedroom because the light does not turn off. I'm buying a smart plug to turn it off at night. Hopefully that won't mess up the functionality.

For years I had reef aquariums with a controller. I was pretty spoiled by having a controller because it allowed me to really customize everything and install guardrails to prevent catastrophic issues.I took down my last reef aquarium a few years ago and after moving, I purchased a non drilled rimless tank to set up a 120 gallon planted tank. The downside of having a non drilled tank is not having a sump to hide equipment in.One of the things that I've really hated is even though I do weekly water changes, as winter sets in my home gets extremely dry and the amount of evaporation in the tank is insane. I might lose up to an inch to inch and a half, which in a 120 gallon tank is a lot of water. While this is freshwater, and realistically doesn't matter since evaporation isn't causing a change in salinity, it does affect the light levels in the tank. With less water, the light gets more powerful, which isn't a good thing.I had been eyeing this product for quite some time but never quite decided to pull the trigger on it, until I saw it come up as an option on Vine.It comes well packaged and includes everything you need. Setup is super easy.As the water level dropped, the pump kicked on and the pump is pretty silent. The water pumps into the aquarium until it reaches the level you set it at and then it kicks off. Pretty simple stuff. Now for the things that concern me a bit, or at least things you should watch out for or take into consideration. This uses optical sensors. You will need to keep the unit inside the tank clean so add it to your maintenance during water changes. I tend to have slightly hard water so when water evaporates, I get the hard water lines on my equipment and glass. Theoretically I shouldn't have that issue with this since it's always keeping the water level stable. Nevertheless I'll be cleaning it weekly with a paper towel or something just to wipe it off.I'd recommend not keeping the hose that connects to the pump beneath your water line. While it comes with a check valve, check valves fail. If the check valve fails, and a back siphon happens, if your container doesn't hold enough water, you'll flood your floor. So keep this above the water surface to be safe. Sure you'll hear the water when the pump kicks on, but I'd rather hear water than have my floor flooded.Lastly, whatever container you're using as the reservoir, make sure that at the level you're setting the sensor at, can your aquarium take the entire reservoir of top off water in the event this fails in the on position? Basically if you were to dump the entire bucket or whatever you're keeping the top off water in into the tank, will the tank overflow? Stuff fails, and usually fails if you're not home. What I'd do to test this is fill your tank up to the normal level, and then take your top off water and start pouring it into the tank to see if it'll take it all without overflowing. If it can, then you should be okay if it fails in the on position. The only downside is that the pump will run itself dry and likely burn out.Like anything on your aquarium, you should be checking on things daily. Just add this to your checklist and maintain it and you should have any issues or at least be able to spot potential issues before they happen.I really miss having a controller because I was able to set up time limits for how long a piece of equipment runs before automatically shutting off. My old ATO worked with a tube and air/water pressure. When the pressure dropped, the controller would kick on a water pump and fill directly into my sump. When it reached the right level, the controller would kick it off. Rarely did that pump run for more than 2-3 minutes (it was very underpowered). My controller was set to detect if it ran longer than 5 minutes, it would kick the outlet off for the pump and then send me an alert so I knew something was wrong. Basically the tip you read above is how I'm recreating these prevention techniques, at least as best I can without a controller.Would I recommend this to friends and family? Absolutely, and would share exactly what I shared above with them. Maintain this unit weekly, keep the water line outside of the water, and only use a reservoir that won't overflow your tank. If you want to go crazy, you can add a smart outlet to the plug that will send you an alert if the pump stays on longer than a couple minutes, depending on your tank size obviously. Just set it to send out an alert for slightly longer than it takes to typically fill your tank back up to the proper level. You can also set up some smart outlets to shut off as well.Otherwise this is a great product. I'll come back and update this down the line after I've used it for several months in the event something goes wrong with it.
