I really enjoyed testing out this Portable Underwater Metal Detector. It is a great tool for adventuring in the water. It is a very fun accessory for any scuba or snorkling excusion. The dectector is indeed completely waterproof, and it is quite easy to use. I have not had any big finds yet, as I have not taken it out to the beach yet—but, I have tested it in a pool and there were no issues with the product being fully submerged in water, and it always vibrated when I passed it over metal objects. The only feature I do not like about this product is that it turns off quite quickly if no metal is detected in certain amount of time. Now, that may not be a problem to snorklers (which would be me), as you only have so long under water before you have to come up for air. But, this may prove troublesome to those who wish to scubadive with this metal detector. I imagine one would want more than a minute or two of search time before the product turns off.For what I intend to use this for, it meets all of the necessary criteria. But, if I were into scuba diving, I may have a different view on this product.

This metal detector worked well. It was very easy to use: it vibrates which makes it really easy to use. Its really lightweight and easy to use. I found that it was fun to use. Worked well underwater and handled it fine.

I've been testing out this GC-2008 underwater metal detector for a few days, and I have to admit—it’s pretty fun! It's small, lightweight, and easy to handle underwater, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or casual diving. The design is straightforward and user-friendly, with absolutely no complicated settings or switches to fiddle with. You simply tilt it downward to turn it on, and upward to shut it off. It felt quirky at first, but after a few minutes, it becomes second nature.I took it out on a beach in shallow water to test it, and it had no problem picking up a variety of things - within about 20 minutes had found an assortment of rusty bobles. You do have to go slowly and methodically to effectively cover an area, since the detection range is only a few inches, and it’s not going to find deeply buried treasures, but it easily picks up items within a couple inches beneath sand or silt. The vibration and LED alert system is intuitive and should work well underwater where sound isn’t practical. I appreciate how obvious it is when you find something—it gives a clear buzz and flashes brightly enough to see even underwater. It's definitely sensitive enough for casual exploring, though the listing claim of precision in turbid waters might be slightly overstated—it works fine, but visibility will obviously still affect how easy items are to recover, and if you having issues seeing the LED, you’re going to have issues finding the source. As a bonus, my kids will likely have a great time using this when the water warms up—especially as it's totally waterproof and seems durable enough to handle their youthful enthusiasm. It also works on dry land, but usability is awkward since you’ll need to be crouched down or on hands and knees, making it uncomfortable for prolonged use, unless your a young child ; )Arguably, one downside is the reliance on a standard 9V battery (included), which feels a bit dated for 2025. A rechargeable battery would’ve been expected, especial in this bracket, but 9v is fairly standard with consumer metal detectors. Additionally, turning it off is finickier then it should be, and sometimes takes a couple of tries - expect this might be more of an issue with children, so stock up on some batteries.Overall, it’s a fun addition for casual divers or hobbyists who want something compact, and easy to use. More serious treasure hunters will probably find its sensitivity and detection range lacking, but for casual hunting it’s fun and checks the box. It’s a simple compact tool for adding a bit of excitement to swimming and snorkeling trips and works as advertised.Final Thought - maybe a little steep but still fun for those that like to add an additional dimension to their diving or snorkeling experience.

Just got this underwater metal detector for our trips this summer where we plan doing paddleboard in a small river with old stories from 200 years + about being the source of one of the biggest gold rush. I'll give it a try when we get there.Meanwhile, I tested it with various metal parts : table spoon, fork, keys, 1/4" nut, small metal spare parts I had lying in the garage. It all got detected easily. To start it, insert the battery, then keep the stick upward for a few seconds. It'll vibrate and then you can start using it.

This review is based on my initial impressions on this metal detector. I simulated some underwater and above ground situations to test it before packing it for a trip to use where we will be oceanside. Here in Arizona there's not a lot of that! Because it's been made to handle metal/jewelry hunting submerged underwater, it has a nice short but completely sealed body and handle. It is sensitive enough to detect any metal when it comes into contact with the head, or is at least very close (~1.5") to the head. It has a really bright LED light mounted near the head so you can see everything where you're scanning. As i said, it's for underwater, so if you plan no using it above ground, know that you will be bent over as the handle is more "wand" length. I suppose if I want to explore an above ground with this, I'll probably using some duct tape or hose clamp to a piece of broomstick to it ad make it longer. Another great feature is that you don't need to lug around a bunch of batteries. This detector is rechargeable, and with the enclosed cord, you can add your power block and charge up anywhere you would charge your phone or tablet, and you're ready to hunt for treasure again in no time and for a long time.

I've ordered a few different metal detectors to use while at the beach, around hiking trails in the woods and to help find items that get lost in the yard around our house. Of the detectors that I've ordered, I have to say that the GC-2008 Portable Underwater Metal Detector is the quirkiest one to use. There aren't any adjustments to speak of, other than flip it over to turn it on... skim it over the sand and try to locate metal stuff... flip it up to turn it off. Tests show that it will find metal through a couple of inches of sand, but not much deeper. The kids have fun just running around the beach with it and I don't have to worry about it getting wet, since it's waterproof... so for keeping the kids entertained, I give it a thumbs up. It uses 9v batteries, which can get expensive, so I opted for rechargeable 9v's which seemed to degrade performance a little, but it still worked ok. Overall, I would say that the GC-2008 is good for keeping the kids entertained, but may not be what you're looking for if you're doing some serious scavenging for jewelry and valuables.

Good little unit. Keep the probe on the underwater surface. Has only about a 3 inch depth detection range. Works great for me!

This underwater metal detector has been so much fun to use! I got this for my husband because he does metal detecting as a hobby and he had mentioned how cool it would be to be able to use one in the water. So when I saw this I knew I had to get it for him. He couldn't wait to try it out and went to the closest body of water to us which is a lake. He took it in the water with him as he was swimming and was using it. The sensor is pretty accurate and he did find a couple of things. Nothing of value yet but who knows what the future might hold! It was really easy to charge and hold a charge for several days 2 weeks depending on how often you use it. The directions were easy to understand. He likes it because it's not super heavy and bulky and is very easy to take with him wherever he goes or put it in the back of the car and carry it with him. Overall I'm very thankful that I got this for him because he really has loved it!

Seems lightweight and durable. Battery compartment has a watertight seal. There isn't an exterior on/off switch. Which is a plus. That would just be another place for water to get in. It was able to detect my ring at about 3". Wish it would detect it at a few more inches though. It should be a decent starter machine for the water.
