This mailbox is easy to install as it comes with pre-drilled holes in the base if you're installing it on a post like normal. I, however, had to install it to a tree, as my town snowplow made a habit to killing my mailbox several times each season. The steel construction is sturdy enough to allow me to drill two large holes in the back panel, and screw 3 inch lag bolts directly into a tree at my roadside. The plow has not hit it once in 2 years, so hopefully I am safe! The size is large enough to accommodate pretty large boxes (think large laundry soap boxes, boot boxes, or a NYC phone book (if you remember what a large phone book is). We order stuff online weekly, and everything usually fits right in the box. The flag has a plastic stopper, so when you put the flag up, it stays up until the mailman puts it down. Good quality, good finish. No rust or problems 2 years in.

Arrived on time and in good shape. The box is super sturdy and large enough for small and medium packages/newspapers. The colour is attractive. The finish was an excellent surface for painting on our house number. The flag stays up and the door closes securely. We're in a rural area, so we'll soon find out how it stands up to snow/snow plows. Fingers crossed. ☺UPDATE: One-and-a-half winters later and the box still looks good. For anyone who'd rather paint their house number than stick on adhesive: I used Americana Multi-surface Satin acrylic paint on this mailbox. I did not cure in the oven (as suggested) but let it sit out in the hot sun for a couple of days. After more than a year, it hasn't chipped, peeled, or faded at all.

Wanted a large mailbox for rural use and this mailbox is definitely large. It fits a lot of packages and mail - it's also very sturdy and the green is true to the photo. Hoping this mailbox will stand the test of time!

Mailboxes aren't the most exciting thing to buy. We needed a new one because a plow or a wayward car took ours out in the last snowstorm, lucky us. This is strong and well made in the USA. It has very few places for bugs to get in. Our last one has huge gaps and was bug heaven, yuck! I Love the large size, since we order often from Amazon. This can hold up to medium packages, say size of two tissue boxes stacked either side by side or on top of one another. So for us, that's nice and save the drivers a few extra minutes, which they like. The door lines up correctly and shuts securely. As long as no one takes a bat or a car to it, this will last a very long time. And if they do hit it, I'll just hit reorder, it's that nice. And the price is really good. Not going to break my heart or the bank if it gets wrecked again. Though, if they did hit it with a bat, it probably hurt them more then the box. It's really well made and a thick steel. So really, I'm just worrtied about cars and plows taking it down and scratching the nice black paint job. The box is tank. Though surprisingly not that heavy.

Haven't installed this yet on timber post that I built as I'm in the middle of refurbishing it waiting for paint to dry, etc; old beat up one still on temporarily, but I don't expect any trouble doing so. It arrived on time and in perfect shape via UPS.It happens to be the exact same model that I've had for years (finally done in by a snowplow, possibly mine) so I think this is a good value that lasted for many years on our rural road.I disagree with reviewers that complained that it was hard to open and close, or that the latch may not be secure after a little wear (it's a friction fit inside latch, pretty standard stuff on a non-fancy rural mailbox just bend the metal latch tab for goodness sake), or that it is 'thin metal' and deforms too easily - Magilla Gorilla the Mailman?, or the aluminum flag is held on with a plastic part and broke quickly - bad Magilla, no touch flag! and various other very minor quibbles. C'mon!Folks it's a nicely made, nice looking mailbox for it's price range. Opens and closes fine, flag works fine, keeps the weather out just fine. Out here in the country that's what most people want, because chances are the plow is going to take it out sooner or later whether it's a $25 or a $200 box. In fact it's well enough made that I could have repaired the old one sufficiently to keep it (I have the shop, the tools and the skills even though it was partially crushed with the back popped off. At 25 bucks for a nice looking brand new one instead of a beat up looking repaired one why bother. If you feel that you need an 8 gauge cold rolled steel super heavy duty mailbox that's powder coated and has a machined latch with a bolt on welded flag this one's not for you. Maybe a local shop will make one up for you for a few hundred. The snow and the plow will still laugh.

This is an update to the following review which stated: "We purchased this product to go with the Solar Group PP600W00 mailbox post and we are very satisfied with it. That post and this mailbox compliment each other nicely. The E1600 is made of sturdy metal and it is much roomier than the box we had previously without looking overly obtrusive in the process. It is a simple design, but the fit and finish are very good. Being white in color, it remains cool to the touch even in the hot Florida sun. This a definite plus if you live in a warm climate. It easily installed on the PP600W00 post. Unless you're looking to make a statement by obtaining a box that is reflective of something particular, the E1600 should prove to be a good choice, especially in this price range." Now for the update. While the previous statements remain correct, we have now had the mailbox about a year and I should mention that a very small amount of rust has developed on each side of the box where the lid bottom rubs against it when the lid is fully opened. The amount of rust is extremely minor in nature and in no way has affected the integrity of the metal nor is it ever likely to do so. However,I felt I should mention it. No other part of the box has rusted and it still looks as good as new. However, the fact the lower part of the lid does rub against the box when fully opened, seems to be a minor design flaw. Since it seems there is no way the rust will spread, and it's hardly noticeable, I wouldn't let this be a deal breaker but I lowered the previous rating of 5 stars to 4 stars because of it. I'm sure a can of white gloss spray paint will cover the small rust spot, but at this point we don't find it necessary because the rust area is so small.
