Tips for extending the heat/cold retention time
- Before putting in food, preheat or pre-cool the barrel with hot or cold water for about 2 minutes.
- The bottom layer provides the best insulation. We recommend placing hot soup or liquid food in the bottom layer for optimal heat retention.

I love the small containers in this set with their D-ring lids that pop up like a big "key" to open the lids. The large "jug" that these fit into does NOT have the D-ring lid. You have to grab over the top and around the edges to unscrew. I have small hands/short fingers. With my hand spread out like I'm trying to reach an octave on a piano, they measure 7-3/8" at the widest point. Once bent around the 5-1/4"W top of the "jug", I can barely get a grip on the lid to open it. You HAVE to press the vacuum release button or you'll never get the lid off. It then fits inside an insulated bag with a handle. I really struggled to get the lid off, but most ADULTS will have hands large enough. I would have preferred that each small container be as insulated as the "jug" (barrel) and could then be placed directly in the carry bag. A child would probably not be able to access their lunch.

This is an attractive and good quality food thermos system. The large insulated canister holds three stacked insulated containers to carry your food, and the entire unit can be carried in an insulated fabric carry case. This works well to take warm food to the office or for a road trip. There are also some spare gaskets supplied.There are thee individual food containers. A metal container slides into the outer plastic container, and then there’s a screw down lid with pull up finger hold. The food can be filled to the top of the container, not overflowing like the Amazon listing pictures show. Still, the three containers can hold a generous amount of food.Those three containers stack into the insulated cylinder with its screw down lid. There’s also a folding carrying handle. While I don’t have too much of a problem unscrewing that top lid, it’s almost too large even with my huge hands. Some additional texturing or cutouts would have made it easier to screw open or closed.There’d also an insulated fabric carrying case. Another easy way to carry this, and it gives it a bit more insulating properties.I can’t say exactly how long this will keep your food hot, or cold, but it’s worked well for me. I can have hot food for lunch at the office, even if it’s a late lunch. The food has always been hot enough for me.Cleaning this isn’t too bad, although realize there could be a lot of pieces to clean. Certainly the stainless steel inserts need to be cleaned, but I usually end up having to clean the lids and outer pieces as well. Not recommended to clean in the dishwasher, but I have those pieces in the top rack a few times without any noticeable adverse affects. Definitely don’t use this in a microwave.I can wholeheartedly recommend this three container stainless steel insulated food thermos. Attractive, holds a generous amount of food and keeps it warm for a few hours.

First, I would like to say that I like the design. It looks like something you'd put coffee or other types of liquid in. Instead, you use for food.Second, the size forces me to control my portions for lunch at work. It is a great pro for me, but if you eat a lot, forget about it. The size would be a big con because you can't pack a lot of food in it. The pictures in the description with foods above the lid is not real. Of course, you can't do that. I mention it because it gives you the wrong perception that it can hold more than it actually can.It keeps my food warm - hot actually - until lunch time. I haven't tried it for longer than 4 or 5 hours at a time to say how warm it would be in 8 or longer hours, but for average use, it is safe to expect it to be warm when you need it. Same goes for cold food, as frozen fruits are still frozen when I eat.Finally, the biggest plus for me is that the interior is made of stainless steel and doesn't transfer microplastic to the food.

I have long wished that some of my bento boxes were more thermal for soups and hot meals. This seemed to be a good alternative, so I decided to give it a try. I'm definitely very pleased!The whole system is easy to use, easy to clean, and easy to carry. The three containers can fit into the thermos in any order, and the two size options is definitely nice. All of it fits very easily into the insulated lunch bag. In fact, I thought I'd made a mistake one day by using the handle to lower the thermos into the bag. I knew I wouldn't be able to fold the handle down after I'd put it in, so I was afraid I was going to have to pull it back out and reload it. (And I was in a bit of a hurry, so while that wouldn't have taken long, I was a bit annoyed with myself for the error.) But nope! There's enough flexibility that I was able to zip the bag up around the handle, even with it lifted.As for insulation, it seems to work just as advertised. Obviously, if you like your food very hot, by the end of the six hours you might wish it could be warmer. But it's definitely going to still be at a very safe eating temperature.The biggest thing I was curious about was combining hot and cold in one thermos. I didn't really have a need for that coming up, so I tried it with water instead. I put ice water in one container and placed it at the bottom of the thermos. I left the middle container empty and put boiling water in the top container. I sealed it all up and meant to check it after 6 hours. 10 hours later, I remembered. The top container still was warm to the touch and the bottom container was still very cold to the touch, even though the ice was fully melted. So, I'd definitely say that it works for putting both cold and hot foods in different containers in the same thermos. To me, that's the biggest advantage here.So, very nice. Very helpful. Very useful. I'm happy!
