This is a review of the XCGKUND Green Laser Pointer. This item consists of an aluminum barrel which houses a green laser emitter operating at 532 Nm and less than 5 Mw, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a USB-A style male connector used for recharging which is covered by a threaded cap which also has an attached wrist strap. Additionally, there is a push-button on the barrel that is used to turn the laser emitter on and which has a detachable plastic cover to safe the push-button when its use is not needed. Finally, there is an attachment which may be screwed into the emitter-end of the barrel which may be used to create various star-like light patterns from the laser emitter. This light is powerful, so CARE MUST BE USED in its use. There are a number of issues with this product. The first issue is this product’s push-button. It is potentially dangerous in its accessibility and function. The plastic cover is insufficient to prevent the laser emitter from being accidentally activated. The plastic cover will be easily broken, taken off and forgotten, or simply lost and therefore, not used. This laser is powerful and if it strikes someone’s retina there will be damage. Laser damage to a retina is often permanent and can be debilitating. The push-button must be redesigned so that turning the laser on MUST be a deliberate, intentional act and never accidental. The second issue I have with this product is the method of recharging the lithium-ion battery. This model has a male USB-A connector under the screw-on cap on the rear of the barrel. To attach this connector to a USB-A source means that the entire length of the product is being supported by the male USB-A connector. This will eventually result in the connector being broken rendering the product useless when the battery is dead. I strongly suggest that the product be redesigned to include a USB-C socket so that a standard USB-C cord can simply be plugged into the product to recharge the lithium-ion battery. Finally, concerning the Star Cap or star pattern grating – Why? This holds about five minutes worth of interest and if played with long enough will result in a laser strike to someone’s retina. It is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. While this product is extremely useful as a laser pointer, it is not a planetarium projector, and it is not a LightSaber. It is a useful product that has the potential to do great harm if used improperly. Its design needs to be improved to ensure that it does not accidentally harm someone. Further, it needs to be improved so that simply recharging the battery does not result in the product being rendered permanently inoperative. Finally, this product is not a toy and should never be treated as such.

We got this laser pointer to occupy our puppy when she is stuck inside on wet days. The pointer comes with a fitting on the end of the pointer that creates a series of designs when you twist it. However, we weren't really interested in fancy refractory designs; we just wanted a bright pin-point of light. When you screw off the fitting, you get a single bright pinpoint of green light. The pinpoint is not sharp and crisp, but is surrounded by thousands of other tiny pinpoints that give the light a slightly hazy look.I like that there is a button that needs to be pressed in order to turn on the laser light, and the moment you release the button the laser turns off. So there is no on/off switch, Instead it has a button that will spring back and turn the laser off once you remove your finger. This seems so much safer than a switch, but it means that you cannot turn on the laser and hang it to a string and spin it around the room while dogs chase it. Well, you still could do that, but you would need to tape the button down in order for the light to stay on.But while this is a very nice, sturdy, safer, and well made laser pointer, it turns out our pup is no kitten. She will look at the light next to her nose, but has no interest in inspecting or chasing it. This reaction is so unlike our previous dog who was so obsessed with the light, that when we would put away the pointer, she would go and grab it herself. But presently, it seems it's back to bouncy balls, and socks.

I occasionally give presentations and switch between using a laser pointer and my laptop and mouse. My old laser pointer was small, allowed me to control the presentation, and fit easily in my hand. It also ate through batteries, so I decided to look for a replacement or supplemental pointer. When I saw this one, I thought, why not give it a try? For the price, it looked like it would work nicely as a backup.Design-wise, it’s a great handheld pointer. It’s about the same size as my old presentation controller but lacks the cursor keys and Bluetooth connectivity. It’s an aluminum tube with a laser on one end and a cover over the USB charge port on the other. The laser end has a diffuser, that can be removed, that creates a kaleidoscope-like pattern on the wall. It’s very little use to me, but it acts as a nice cover to protect the laser. The laser itself is a 100mW 532nm green laser, which is pretty powerful for indoor use.To control the laser, it has a simple push button that has a cheap cover that can easily be broken or lost. If the clip cover is lost or broken, I can see the laser being easily activated accidentally. I think a better design would have been a slide switch. The other design issue I see is the USB charge port under the back cover. By design, it’s a male USB that can be plugged into a computer or a USB bridge. Over time, I’m concerned about the weight of the unit, although it’s lightweight, causing damage to the pointer. In the long run, I think it would have been better to use a female USB port and a USB cable to charge the unit.In summary, if you’re looking for a powerful laser to point to things outside for commercial or hobbyist use, this is a good choice. This is not a toy laser in my opinion and is properly labeled as such. It’s not an item I would use to chase an animal around with or use indoors for fear of accidentally pointing at a shiny surface. I recommend it only with lots of reservations.
