Big heavy machine. The delivery people weren't prepared and couldn't lift it. Luckily I had a dolly on hand. Still, after dis-assembly at my front door, I couldn't get it in my shop. You need two strong people. Later I realized that the motor and other end slide off so I could have installed myself. Better have 2 people to help. Don't want to crush your toes.

After receiving the lathe on time and good condition.. It performs well and is a good deal for the price.

This is my first of this size, previously I'd only used bench top models. I did a lot of research on other models before finally deciding to buy the grizzlyPros:-The speed control is great. I've never owned a lathe with a variable frequency drive and it's so convenient. In the first gear setting I can get speeds from about 50rpm to over 2000rpm, which is really all I ever use. Also the digital readout gives you the rpms in real time.-Nice and heavy. Really helps dampen vibration and wobbles when you start up and uneven blank.-Simple controls. Forward, neutral and reverse selector directly above the speed knob. I didn't think I'd use reverse much, but it really comes when hollowing so you don't have to been leaned out over the ways to get in to the near side. Hollowing in reverse is a little awkward at first but I got use to it after a couple hours trying it out. Reverse is pretty useful for sanding too.-Price. Other machines with similar quality, functionality and size can cost you over $1000 moreCons:-Low torque at low speeds. Any machine using a variable frequency drive (i.e. any lathe with speed control like this one) will have a substantially reduced torque output all low speeds. You can stop the spindle with your bare hands at anything below about 400rpm and too aggressive of a cut will bite and stop it at a bit higher speeds than that. I knew this before I purchased this lathe and I still manage to rough out my blanks just fine.-Now hand wheel on the headstock. All other lathes I've used had a wheel on the outboard side of the headstock so you could rotate the spindle by hand. For whatever reason grizzly didn't put one on here. I find it odd and it makes it a little annoying if you swap between spur center and chucks often like I do. You have to use the indexing pin to lock the spindle in place to thread on/off chucks.-Live center doesn't self knockout of tail stock. Again, this is a feature I've had in smaller lathes but grizzly didn't do it here. You have to use the knockout tool to remove the live center.Overall I love this lathe and I'll probably have it forever. It works great. Even the things I listed as cons aren't enough to have driven me away from this purchase. It does everything I need it to and I'm very pleased.

Had to be returned before it even was delivered. Was damaged enroute. They did not have a replacement so we went directly to Grizzly and ordered. Are very happy with Grizzly products.

This is my 3rd lathe. It will also be my final lathe. It does everything well. It is sturdy and heavy. Stays stable even out of balance bowl blanks. One feature that is great, you can turn the forward / reverse switch to neutral and to inspect your work and then turn it back to forward and it will go back up to speed. I think it is as good as many machines that cost much more. There is a youtube video comparing it to a Jet lathe that is worth watching.

Great tool so far. The variable speed and reverse direction capability is excellent. I am a beginner, so should know more later.
