This Hall Crystal Flute is handcrafted in Washington State, USA by flute maker James Hall. Starting with precision Pyrex glass tubing, it is sealed and carefully shaped to create a Boehm taper producing beautiful and accurate tones throughout its tonal range. After shaping and tuning the tone holes, the flute is decorated and kiln fired to fuse the decorations and insure durability. Each flute is a handcrafted work of glass art. This flute will arrive nestled in a classy foam lined dark-green storage box with gold stamped logo, along with a complete fingering chart. Free sheet music is avalible on the Hall Crystal Flute website.

The Hall crystal flute is a folk or historical instrument and plays differently than a modern concert flute. The mouth hole has a raised edge and no lip plate. If you play the silver flute, this will take some time to get used to. The biggest difference is that you will need to place the flute higher on the lip and use a slightly tighter embouchure. Of course you can play any style of music you wish. Being a 6-holed flute it is well-suited for playing Celtic music and traditional tunes. It is also similar in design to the renaissance or baroque flute so is excellent for this as well.

Bought this for a gift to out 14 year old grandaughter who loves music and plays the flute in their school band. Taking it to her in a few days and is such a beautiful gift with the lily and gold embrossed on it.

My husband bought this crystal flute in G for me for my birthday and it was so beautiful and fun to learn that we purchased the Hall Crystal Flute in D as well. Now I have one at home and one at the office and during the stress of the day I can pick it up and just play a little to remind myself that life is too short not to enjoy it.

debatable of 4 and 1/2 stars or 5 star, it is a awesome flute, just the way the holes are a little raised makes blocking the air holes with your fingers at the end hole of the flute a little difficult to get a tight seat first try, im sure in time i will learn, so, its more of a human error then a flute error as it does play great once fingered properly with covering the hole, practice and adjusting for it should overcome the difficulty, other then that, love this flute! better sound to my ears then a professional bamboo of the same type i have here, but each type has its own place with different types of music,

I must say this glass flute is very fun and easy to play, it sounds very beautiful. However, some of the notes that are not in the G-major scale can be a bit tricky and for me they come out "airy". It might just be a matter of practise though and it is not a reason for me not to recomend it. It is well in tune. And if you think about performing, this flute will sure draw attention, in a good way!

I've read reviews on other sites that basiallcly "poo-poo" Hall flutes, saying they are nothing but a toy and can't be played with a consistent tone. I agree that some instruments, as simple a penny whistles, can be harder to play than others of the same class, and any instrument that is playable takes some study and practice to reach consistency. I'm not a profession flute player, but feel that this flute is playable and sounds great at a fantastic price. It has a bit of a lip around the hole you blow across, which serves as a cue for playing placement. If you first don't succeed, be patient with yourself and keep experimenting with placement and how you're blowing! Also, this is not simply a glass tube with holes in it to make noise... Testing it with a tuner shows that it will play in tune with other instruments. If you're looking for a 6-holed flute instrument I think you really can't got wrong with this at its price point. I think it sounds GREAT!
