I love this little ice shaver it works great. I definitely suggest filling the little cup with water and freezing it and using the little block of ice rather than cubes. It's very to turn that small children can even get in on the fun with supervision. It's compact and small, so it doesn't put out a bunch of shaved ice at a time but it's great for storage

This manual ice shaving machine is simple to use, easy to clean and safe enough for well behaved, or well supervised, children to manage as well. However, I suggest purchasing more of the properly shaped ice molds BEFORE inviting people over for Hawaiian shaved ice by the pool or patio. You can instead use freezer tray ice cubes, but you will end up with chunks of ice as well as the shaved ice you really want. FYI, you will receive one ice mold in this package which makes two small servings of shaved ice (IMHO).

This does shave ice really well but it's hard work. It can only hold a little ice in the space to shave it. You have to press down hard to get it to close it.The bin that hold the shaved ice is very awkward. It doesn't really fit right into it's space so it's lose and the shaved ice can end up behind it. It also falls out while cranking the thing because you can't not move the whole device when doing it.I'm wondering if it makes the ice too light because it melts immediately. I don't know how I can make snow cones with this unless I shave the ice and pack it into a cone, then refreeze it.So, I'd say it's ok. Not super, but it will do the job.

I finally bought Hawaiian Ice Flavorings, so this afternoon I set out to make Hawaiian Shaved Ice. To make things a bit more interesting, a friend of mine bought a used electric snow cone machine. We both set out to make the best Hawaiian Ice.I loaded my Hand-crank machine with the ice, and I am not exaggerating, within a minute I had the entire container filled with shaved ice. Seriously, I did not think that I had shaved anything at all. It was so quiet and so easy, I had no idea that it was even working correctly. My friend . . . after 10 noisy minutes, had 1/4 the amount of shaved ice I had. He threw his machine away by the way.This hand-crank shaved ice maker is absolutely incredible. I chose mine simply for making Hawaiian Shaved Ice, but shaved ice can be for drinks as well. Regardless the reason you need shaved ice, this little hand-crank machine does the trick easily, smoothly, and with little to no effort whatsoever. The crank turns with little effort and it simply shaves the ice quickly and efficiently.This machine is little, and fits in a cupboard. It stays clean because it is only ice, but it will clean and dry easily. I can not find one complaint about this little machine. It will be used a great deal this coming summer.

I'd say 4.5 stars only because the plastic container for freezing the "puck" of ice isn't great, but I'll round up!The container doesn't seal well so it leaks easily. It's difficult to get the ice out of the container, so I've been filling the collector with warm water and putting the container into it to soften a little. Make sure to put it in a spot in the freezer where it won't be disturbed.Honestly other than that it's great.Texture: 8/10 I'm a shaved ice snob, I like it to be very finely shaved and light and fluffy and this does a great job!Ease of use: 9/10 The "puck" is the perfect size. The top screws on pretty easily and grinding the ice with the crank is a breeze! Even kids can turn the crank! It's quick and uses almost all the ice except for a thin layer on the bottom, which you can still break up and eat if you want.Ease of cleaning: 9/10 It's easy to take apart and put back together and doesn't have a lot of partsEase of assembly: 8/10 Only because the instructions are incomprehensible but it's very intuitive to assembleFor the first batch I used milk sweetened with sugar and it was perfect. For my second batch I used coffee at normal drinking strength with cream and sugar and it was a little weak. I'll have to keep working on it.It makes a single serving of shaved ice as you can see in the photo. You could freeze whatever flavor you want to make as ice cubes instead if you want to make multiple batches, you don't have to use the container.

This ice shaver might become a favorite. Or, like those old snowman-shaped snow cone makers, it might be stored in the back of an obscure cupboard and forgotten until the next garage sale.If you use the included ice mold, the shaver works very well, producing a very fine shaved ice, about the consistency of snow. The ice mold produces enough ice for maybe two snow cones. I tried using regular ice cubes and the results weren't so consistent. There was some shaved ice and a whole lot of chunks.Assembly is straightforward and easy. Just make sure to remove ALL of the packaging material. Use is easy, but it takes a while. It's necessary to keep a gentle downward pressure on the lever.

My wife loved all kinds of ice, crushed, shaved and this little design is perfect. Includes a mold to put in the freezer that fits in the shave zone. Using the molded ice makes it more shaved than using cubed ice.I like this as the kids can have snow cone parties and not hit me up for money every time the truck drives past. Its small and fits in a bag for picnics or beach trips as well. Snow cone on the beach - Five Stars!

This is a decent ice shaver. My daughter was very excited for it because she wanted to make flavored shaved ice. It is completey manual, easy to take apart and clean, and comes with a removable and coverable container to hold the shaved ice. However, the ice doesn't necessarily come out very shaved, it's almost like a crushed ice, which we already have in our refrigerator. Overall it's just ok, but I do like the size of it and the fact that it's very lightweight and you don't need a plug.
