The pecking order can be a little fierce at times, and there is always that one poor, innocent hen at the bottom of the pecking order that suffers.

First goes the feathers, then possibly drawing of first blood. If you don't act fast in protecting the hen, more serious health problems can occur.

If you have a rooster in your flock then you can relate to their high libido. On average a rooster mates every 20 minutes throughout the day. A single rooster can keep up to 10 hens fertile at any one time.
Sometimes a roo picks a very special lady and can wreck havoc on her back with his beak and spurs by over-breeding. This can be unhealthy for the hen and she can sustain feather loss and damage.
The hen saddle can provide that extra protection to either deter the mating or reduce the damage during. They allow feather re-growth without having to separate your hen from the flock or having to remove or trim anything on your rooster.
Potentially deters aerial predators
Hawks, eagles, and other aerial predators are one of those dangers that flock owners face everyday, especially if you free-range your chickens.
Being natural hunters, they can spot their prey from hundreds of feet away. The bright colorful designs of the hen saddles can actually deter them from choosing your hen for lunch. Being "unnatural" in color and shape, the hen apron confuses the predator and is like a costume for your hen.
And if they do decide to attack, the hen saddle inhibits their ability to grasp your chickens.

These are nice, easy to put on and saved the hen pecking. Used them when my pullets had their first molt which resulted in bare backs. Once all the feathers grew back the saddles were easy to take off. They stayed in place with no issues while using. My hens are average size. Sapphire gems, Black Austerlop, Americana and Isa Brown.

I got my apron today and it will not fit my chickens and strap is not adjustable. Smaller than what I thought. Made nicely but not made for my RIR, too small and not adjustable.

I haven't used this saddle yet, but I am about to. It looks really well made and if it doesn't slide to the side or off like some do I will be getting another one.
