The arbor and boring bars came rusted and corroded. ReturningUPDATE: Another boring head was sent without asking. The second still had a rusted arbor, but not in areas that would not damage the spindle or effect . A BIG credit to the seller for sending another.

the carbide welded to the cutters is set to cut counter clockwise? and my mill turns clockwise , and if you reverse the rotation it unthreads and comes apart . so i have no idea how to use it now ...

It isn't exactly a zero backlash precision instrument. The two halves of the head rattle around until the grub screws are tightened up. But that really isn't a big deal if you're measuring the bore after each pass.

The parts are machined ok, but with sharp edges which need stoning or filing down. It's all made from mild steel, so care needed to avoid dinging it up.No oil had been applied to lubricate or preserve the parts during shipping. There was a fair bit of rust to clean out from the inside surfaces. Nothing serious.Backlash in the screw has been 'adjusted' using a centre punch to peen over the edge of the rib that the screw sits in. Does the job I guess. The threads look good, both on the arbour and the adjustment screw. Not sloppy and work smoothly.Dial is well engraved. 0.001" on radius adjustment (i.e. 0.002" on hole diameter). The gib is the fixed cantilever type, i.e. cheap to make. Difficult to adjust to give smooth movement and also allow locking. The boring bars are better than I expected, although they are made from mild steel. The carbide is sharp and looks accurately brazed in place. The fit in the boring head is only ok. I would have hoped for a very close sliding fit, but there is half a thou or so clearance. In all, good value for money, and will work well for the average home shop machinist.

Ok it’s worth the money and cuts fine with the stock cutters supplied, but their is excessive backlash in the depth of cut scale I took it apart and found that the manufacture over milled the slot the shafts round sits in to limit backlash , this unfortunately cannot be repaired by milling since the round that sits in the slot is too short, i could mill a whole new adjustment shaft , but other then that it works fine however when turning the thousandths knob you will not get a thousandth in one turn , the backlash is about a 1/4 inch in each direction. Also the R8 collet with it was rough and refused to go up into my milling head when lined up with keyway.. I had to gently toy with it to get it locked in. So I have given it a three to three 1/2 star rating. Regards D

Works great for the price pretty accurate without much trouble unless your down to a thousandth if I have insert bars I bet it wouldn’t have an issue. The bars it come with need work but they do cut about a min of work and they cut great till your part get knocked loose because you get greedy

This boring head is top grade. I recently used it to open the center bore of a pair bus rims. (Photo) The finish size of 6 inches would have been out of reach of any other tool in our crib. Additionally, the head was heavy enough to to dampen the vibrations that this operation would have expected. As the photo shows, I used a small fly cutter to act as an auxiliary tool holder to further add weight to create a "flywheel" effect. This bore head comes with a whole set of cemented carbide bars that have seen heavy use. All in, this bore head is a real workhorse in my shop and love it's versatility.

Boring head is very nice, fit perfect in my machine. Case is very sturdy as well. The boring bars are nothing to rave about though. Brazed carbide was nice and sharp, but you have to take EXTREMELY small depth of cut with them. One of the smallest ones bent right over without too much force.

Good price for what it is. Boring bars are pretty roughly finished but work fine. Direct reading indicator is a big plus. The weirdest thing is that the hex keys don't fit in the recess in the case and the boring bars don't either, really. The cutting edges touch each other. Not good. But over all, I'm happy with the performance of the tool even if the presentation is kind of poor.

Great price and works great. I have even used the cutters in my lathe so got a two for one deal. Came very fast no issues at all.
