Well.. I assumed I did something wrong. EDIT. I DID SOMETHING WRONG. I was using a USB power supply. 5 volts. The Adafruit sound board was fine with is. But when I added the amp the voltage dropped to 2 volts. Adafruit still works but the amp fails. The problem was with the power supply. OOPS. IM LEAVING MY ORIGINAL REVIEW BUT ITS NOT FACTUAL. The first one worked great. Still working The second one I probably killed. But there is no protection. The slightest oops and toast. The third DOA. I double checked everything. Just dead. The forth. I’m super super careful because the slightest problem kills it. Power it up…. Nothing. Dead. So unimpressed.

This amp is working well for an internet radio I built. I had to build it so that power is applied to the amp and the mp3 decoder all the time, even when the processor and display are shut off. This eliminated the loud pop sound that you get when power is applied to the amp. This "stand-by" mode only draws about 15mA at 5v.

I saw people connecting this amp to USB. In my experience from the past couple days, USB AS 5V POWER SOURCE FOR THIS DOES NOT WORK!I needed to hook it up to an actual 5V power supply which finally brought it to life. I was about to give up but wanted to give it one more shot with more power. It worked! It makes small speakers plenty loud and I can't hear much noise at all, even at full amplification and no output. I think for the $6 amp that it is, it does the job well!I can't comment on sound quality, yet. The speakers I'm trying to drive with this are laptop speakers and therefore not representative for "sound quality". However, as far as laptop speakers go, this sounds better than the original laptop my speakers were salvaged from.

This is a fine little all-in-one class D audio amplifier for the price. However, after analyzing the actual datasheet for the driver IC, it will only output the rated wattage (2x 3w) into 4 ohm speakers at 10% distortion/clipping, which is not a very practical or pleasant-sounding scenario. To get decent sound clarity (less than 1% THD) you can only expect to achieve about 2 watts per channel, and about half of that for typical 8 ohm speakers.Bearing that in mind, its still a good bang for the buck, but wont be quite as loud as you might be anticipating.

The first of two I ordered did not work. I also found after I tried the second - which did work - that the volume control was supposed to have an on-off switch, which the first did not. I did not test the unit for sound quality as I was looking for a straight up amplifier which I could use in the audio range, so I only examined the output with a scope.

Very good quality of assembly and sound and the price was perfect. I bought a few of these and I have used 3 so far.Good performance and tiny PCB. It is perfect for me.

I recently saw this item and after seeing mixed reviews on you tube I had to order a few just to check it out. I am no tecno wizard and still get amazed by the simplest new technology. That being said I was so surprised the performance from such a little amplifier. Yes I know it's by far hi quality like Bose or any popular name brand but for the money you can't beat it. I needed something powerful enough to use at work in the shop and put together the pam 8403 amplifier, 2 each 4 1/2 speakers from the garbage, bluetooth module and 4 rechargeable batteries for around $6. Plenty loud enough.
