Function and principle of oil pressure sensor switch
The function of the oil switch:
Multiple systems in automobiles are designed to maintain normal engine oil level and pressure. The oil pressure sensor is directly connected to the oil pressure gauge. When a lower than normal oil pressure is detected, the oil pressure gauge will reflect this change. The oil pressure warning light is usually accompanied by a failure of the oil pressure sensor.
Principle of oil sensor:
1. Oil pressure from the main oil gallery.
2. The oil pressure switch senses oil pressure.
3. Information passes through the warning light.
4. The final contact link to the ignition switch.

Does not fit 1998 Astro van. This item has a 1 prong connector. However for this van the original has a 3 prong connector.

Installed this in a fresh built motor showed 40 on initial start up and would drop to 0 after a few miles. Wound up pulling the motor back out to check for damage. Just buy a gm sensor as I lost far more than I saved on this cheap sensor. Motor was perfect inside with 0 damage or signs of low oil pressure. 18 hours of removing checking bearings reassembled and restall later I have a mechanical guage as a back up.
