Product Description

Honeywell Control S9200U1000

From the Manufacturer

The S9200U1000 can be used with conventional thermostats as well as the EnviraCOM enabled VisionPRO IAQ and FocusPRO. The S9200U1000 Universal Integrated Furnace Control is intended for residential natural or liquid propane fueled furnaces only. The S9200U1000 EnviraCOM communications capability allows its use in twinning applications and enables communication with local and remote diagnostic devices such as the QuickLook hand held device (QuickLook 72), EnviraLINK web-based application and the W8735D Telephone Access Module (TAM).

This is a review of the Honeywell S9200U1000. I am a homeowner with technical sophistication due to years of building my own computers from scratch, therefore I knew that this was basically just a motherboard, and quite a simple one at that. The install was extremely simple because of the wiring harnesses taking care of the majority of wires, and I just labeled the single furnace wires with tape so I knew where to put them on the S9200.The whole install took 15 minutes and everything runs fine. I am in the Chicago area and it was going down to 36 last night so I took another 15 minutes to test the heat fan ON/OFF delays for maximum comfort. After tweaking the delays using the S2 bank of DIP switches, (The DIP banks have a plastic cover which I couldn't remove, so I just used a toothpick thru the plastic to change them), I found the 60 second delay for both ON/OFF modes was the best. The blower wasn't pushing cold duct air on the front or backend with these delay settings. NOTE: In the S1 bank, be sure to use the recommended settings in the manual once you've found your OEM Board # in the manual list. (I learned from PC motherboards, to take the # directly off the MOBO, and not from a manual. Believe me, it matters!)One of the biggest pluses of this unit is the number of error codes that can be indicated by the LED lights (get a PDF of the manual online and see for yourself). This gives the homeowner some knowledge power when the furnace breaks down in the dead of winter, and the HVAC guy is trying to tell you that you need a new furnace! (We've all been through that drill, haven't we). ANYWAY, you at least can tell him the error code is flashing a bad limit switch, etc. so why are you telling me to buy a new furnace? So overall, a 5 star for the unit itself. Now, for the customer service. I had timed my OEM Board before I removed it for all the delays and found a 20 second delay between thermostat callup and flame ignition. The S9200 had a 50 second delay. The manual shows a dozen pre-checks upon a 'Call for Heat' so I figured newer technology, more options, okay, makes sense. (The OEM Board was 14 years old. As any IT guy/gal will tell you, that's ancient. Kinda like dog years). So I figured I'd give Honeywell CS a call to verify. After explaining my question to 2 different individuals, I was told they do not offer support on FCB's.to non contractors (HVAC guys).. Probably has to do with liability giving advice/directions to non professionals who could blow their house up. I get it. So caveat emptor to the homeowner. Your on your own with the install.

I ordered this Honeywell Universal Replacement HSI control board to replace a York 031-01234-000 control board. The Honeywell circuit board comes mounted to a supporting plastic base, as opposed having only stand-off posts. The plastic base covers the entire copper side of the board (a nice touch!) so it was of no concern the board was not packaged in hard Styrofoam partitioning. The circuit board was packaged in an anti-static foam bag. The shipping box included a clear plastic bag of connection adapter wiring harnesses and a folded-sheets installation manual. The harnesses bag was inserted in to the box first, with the wrapped circuit board assembly placed on top. Placement in that order protected the component-side (top) of the circuit board from the Molex connectors of the adapter harnesses. The folded-sheets manual includes the fixed and variable parameters of the universal control board, a reference list of all the control boards that may be replaced with this board and the recommended switch settings (the board includes slide-switches) to closely match parameters of the replaced boards. The available settings might not exactly match those on your original board but the small variances should be acceptable, i.e.; 6 seconds flame-detect time as opposed to 7 seconds, etc.The board assembly included all the required connections (spade lugs for blower motor, electronic air cleaner, humidifier, transformer and line) necessary to replace the original board and provide the same functionality. Two sheet-metal screws are also included. The board is smaller than the original York and it was necessary to drill two mounting holes on the chassis shroud in the blower compartment (where the original board was located). This particular installation required that I use an adapter cable to connect the combination inducer motor / hot surface igniter 4-pin furnace-side connector to the replacement board. The 12-pin furnace-side connector was a direct plug-in to connector on the board. I was able to connect all remaining spade-lugged wiring without issue. The board includes 5 neutral connection spade lugs.I drilled the two holes and installed the board and wiring in fifteen minutes. At first power-up the green communication LED on the board flashed in data-transfer fashion as the CPU executed self-diagnostics and read the slide-switch settings (which I set to match the recommended settings in the manual). After the flashing completed I powered off the furnace, waited 15 seconds then powered it on to a HEAT call. The board functioned perfectly in sequence: inducer motor, hsi, gas valve, flame-detect, blower motor. After a few days we needed to set for COOL call (warmer days!) and that also functioned perfectly: a/c compressor contactor, blower motor. The fixed and recommended parameters set on this board seem to work better with our York / LuxAire PBKM series furnace than those set on the original board. I highly recommend this board for adequate installation manual, harness-wiring adapters and mounting screws inclusion, ease of installation and replacement value (was on sale: $104)!
