I am so glad I found this! I have two cats who love to mess with my cords and the rolls when I'm trying to measure out lengths. This holder makes the situation far more controlled, lol. Yes, you can make something similar easily if you have the wood and the time and the right tools. For the price and the convenience of getting it the next day, it was easier to just order it, and worth the money. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that you're limited to the size of the roll. Even if the roll fits lengthwise, if it's a large roll it will not turn.

It works for smaller schemes of yarn I was looking for something that would work with a jumbo yarn

This picture is insanely deceiving. When I opened this, I was flabbergasted at how incredibly small it was. I thought, well…maybe I have to put some pieces together (it is not assembled-you’ll have to screw in stuff). I set it up, and didn’t see any parts to “expand” the size. It’s slightly bigger than the palm of my hand. It cannot hold a normal sized yarn. I do not recommend this for yarn. This may be okay for beading or tiny yarn balls for small projects, but not bigger or normal size yarn.
