John’s near fall in 2000 while hunting with his brother Jerry sparked a fire in them to create a hunter-friendly safety system that would take away all the excuses they and most hunters used for not wearing a harness. great functional carabiner for those in need of a locking, heavy duty, high weight rating, large mouth opening carabiner for tree stands or other uses. we wanted this exact model for a short rope connecting the 2 pieces of a climbing tree stand together. this was the only one with a high load capacity and wide mouth that fit the bill. a bit pricey - but - was exactly what we wanted & needed!

These are excellent for what I'm using them for (quick-hang system for a Hennessy hammock) but I wouldn't trust them for something like rock climbing. Not because of shape or tensile strength (which I assume is accurate, not like I can test it) but because of the closure. The clasp screw (round part that screws up to keep it from opening) doesn't screw very far up to protect the joint. The result on mine is that with a fair amount of effort, I can force it to open by hand. I can only imagine it would be easier while supporting 175+ lbs in the air.So to sum up, fantastic for what I'm using it for but I wouldn't trust with my life.

This is a great product. Well built high quality item. These carabiners are black and coated well. The finish is well covered and even all around. No snagging points were noted on them. The screw lock on these are great perfect for tightening and relieving a quarter turn to ensure a no bind experience. I would recommend these to those who are starting out in climbing or need back ups for their everyday use.

I use these to attach my Hammock to my Atlas Hammock Suspension System sold by Eagles Nest Outfitters. This work absolutely beautifully. You get peace of mind when screwing the covers onto the snap knowing that it can't accidentally dump you onto your rump. They are lightweight, Heavy Duty, and very durable. I will be buying another set for my other hammock come summer.

Opt for hassle free packaging and these are easily a few bucks cheaper than every other carabiner. They are simply low glare black finish, not neon colors like most of my others, which makes them better for tree stand use, but they are perfectly suited for rock climbing or rappelling as well. Cheap enough to leave one on a tree strap in each stand (which is easier for me than hooking up every time).They are rated to 5k lbs, same or similar to most of my others, but are actually a hair lighter than the others as well. I like their slightly smaller size and more svelte construction and I'm planning on throwing a pair in my fire fighter turnout gear just in case I ever need them to rappel out of a burning building or during a rescue.
