If you have ever been faced with a job site that features extremes in elevation, then you have first-hand knowledge about low head drainage. Unfortunately, a system that requires ups and downs to fit the landscape will find that the water in its pipes seeks out the low points when the system is at rest. That typically results in messy paddling at the heads located at the lowest elevation and, ultimately, wasted water on walkways.

These check valves can be used to artificially increase the elevation of a sprinkler, and/or to prevent drainage from the lowest sprinkler in a zone. However, I'd highly recommend first flushing the zone (using risers or additional funny pipe as needed to avoid backflow), then using Blue Monster's PTFE tape to form a waterproof seal on both ends of the check valve (with the funny-pipe connector and with the sprinkler). Additionally, if you have other leaks in your zone, you may find a need for multiple check valves adjusted to lower elevations after you've added one check valve to the lowest sprinkler, so avoid applying PTFE tape until you're satisfied that all leaks are resolved. The check-valve adjustment wheel is fairly difficult to turn as a plastic bump is in the middle. I needed to place a medium-sized screwdriver's flat head at an angle to make the wheel turn, and it's hard to see what you're doing, so good lighting is important.

Complete garbage. I installed this and my sprinkler still leaked when it turned off. When I adjusted it no water would come out of the sprinkler at all. I spent hours trying to get this to work and wasn’t able to. It is also very hard to adjust they should include a special tool to adjust it.

I had a leak at my lowest sprinkler. I thought it was the valve that was the problem. I replaced the valve and still experienced leaking at the same sprinkler. I bought one of these check valves and the next day after it was installed, the leak went away. I highly recommend this product.

wasn't sure this would work, but it worked perfectly. Before a 1/2 hr steady drain out of the head (10' below other heads), but after install, not a drop of water came out when the zone shut off. Really happy.

I installed this just beneath my lowest sprinkler and, at first, the leak remained just as bad. So I took the sprinkler and check valve out, and flushed the line. With the line clear of dirt, I rinsed out the inside of the check valve (it turned out there was indeed dirt preventing the valve from closing) then reinstalled it, being mindful not to introduce any new mud into the line. It works perfectly now. It no longer leaks after the water is shut off. Good product, just be careful to flush your irrigation line beforehand.

I had two sprinkler heads at the bottom of a hill. The heads had check valves built into them however the slope of the hill was so great that they still leaked badly. So much that my pump would not hold its prime. Had two different irrigation companies look at why my pump wouldn’t hold prime and after over $800.00 of them repairing my system without even considering the leaking heads at the bottom of the hill, my system still wouldn’t hold prime. They wanted to dig up the well as they assured me that was the problem, I told them to just leave. I purchased these check valves and put one under each of the leaking sprinkler heads. Each one only took me about 10 minutes to install. The heads no longer leak at all and the system holds prime even if I have it shut down for weeks. Wish I would have tried these before I called in the so called professionals. These fixed the problem and the entire system now works as designed.

Effective. Easy to adjust with slot head screw driver. Agree with other reviews re: Need to be careful when installing to avoid misaligned threads/not overtightening.Adds about 3 inches to the height of sprinkler head.
