About this item

  • For accurately sampling the rate at which sprinklers apply water to the landscape; Addresses one of the biggest barriers to setting correct smart sprinkler schedules
  • Identifies spots in the landscape which are receiving too little or too much water
  • Contains 12 clear catch cups and 12 orange stakes with rings to hold cups; Catch cups have measurement markings in both milliliters (mL) and inches (In)
  • Web app wateringschedule.com uses the data to create an optimized schedule
  • B-hyve app allows you to input the catch cup levels and creates a smart schedule
  • Compatible with controllers from Orbit, Hydro-Rain, and other major brands

B-hyve sprinkler catch cups/cans are engineered for accurate sampling of the rate at which sprinkler heads distribute water, as well as the uniformity with which they distribute that water. The rate at which sprinklers from different manufacturers apply water can vary significantly, and the way you design the system can accentuate those differences. A catch cup test will provide an accurate average precipitation rate and assist you in scheduling and identifying areas within a sprinkler zone which are receiving too little or too much water. The web app, wateringschedule.com, allows you to input catch cup levels, automatically calculate the precipitation rate and uniformity for each zone, and create an efficient watering schedule. You can also directly input the cup data into the B-hyve app associated with each B-hyve controller. Each catch cup pack comes with a set of 12 catch cups and 12 stakes for holding the cups. Each reusable catch cup has measurement markings in both milliliters (mL) and inches (In). For larger zones, you may want to order additional cups to enhance the accuracy of results. Please note that, in cases where sprinklers from multiple sprinkler zones hit a watered area, it is important to run each of those zones for the same amount time in order to get an accurate precipitation rate for that area. More instructions can be found in the user manual. Compatible with controllers from Orbit, Hydro-Rain, and other major brands. For outdoor irrigation use with cold water only.

Works well but trying to see your measure with clear numbers is crazy. Moisture on the cup and need to hold up to the light/sun to see these tiny numbers is hard....Place the cup and the size cup is great, but you'll hate the next step of reading. Plus it has two sides of numbers...digital .20 to .50 or in ml...Buy ones that have the black readings on the cup that stand out.

After several years owning a smart sprinkler timer, I finally decided to make the “automatic” settings work better. I filled out all the requested details and took the catch cup measurements, and I have to say, my B-hyve timer is working great because of it.

I had initially bought a set of those little yellow square sprinkler gauges that one guy in China makes and everyone else sells.. the little yellow 1 inch cube? Those have a hard time catching your sprinklers' output due to how small and "vertical" they are. They're made of brittle styrene, one of mine leaks out any rain that gets in. I already reviewed those and gave them the 2 stars they deserve. These B-Hyves are the exact opposite. 5-star product. They're tall, they've got a generous mouth area that makes it much easier to catch what your sprinkler's putting out and is less affected by wind blowing the water around. The spikes are sturdier. The gauge itself is made of pliant, non-brittle transluscent plastic, akin to the little measuring caps that come with liquid medicines. These shouldn't break just from using them. The only downside is - these cups only go to half an inch. BUT -- they're so much precise than the other kind. And, in sprinkler setup, you're supposed to only run 'em for a half hour and see what you got -- I can't see anyone in this world with a household sprinkler than can dump half an inch in half an hour!If you're an amateur homeowner gardener, get these. If you're a pro you should already have a few boxes of these!

For some reason, I thought these were going to be little 2" cups on smaller stakes....They are not. They are big 8" tall cups on larger stakes. When I used them they worked great and I dialed in the water for the lawn...turns out I was WAAAAAYYYYY off on my calculations. The size did have people stopping and asking me what I was doing. Which, I thought was a hoot.

This helped me dial in the run times in my home irrigation so I use just the right amount of water.

I irrigate about 3/4 acre of lawn. The sun, soil and water conditions vary greatly. During the summer months I fight brown areas where the grass is stressed due to lack of enough water. I inherited a sprinkler system that was not designed properly. There are many different types of heads and some are not appropriate for the areas they cover. Getting an accurate reading of how much water is actually delivered to a given spot is the only way to know how to fix the problem. Some areas can be fixed with additional time during the hot months others have to be fixed by using different heads or different coverage. These orbit sprinkler cups are the right answer. The large mouth at the top collects more water into a tapered cylinder . This is the best way to get an accurate reading of small amounts of water. Because of the wide mouth the 0 .1 inch Mark is about an inch and a half up from the bottom. The yellow rectangular plastic cups you see on Amazon are worthless. The stakes are made of what looks like a nylon type plastic, which is much more durable than styrene plastic, which is brittle. The stakes are separate from the cup so you can pound them into the ground with a hammer if you want. The cup is supported by a ring which plugs into the top of the stake. The advertising message with this product was a little confusing as to what was included. It mentions a one pack and a two pack and it says that the product is a 12 pack. If you buy one item you get 12 stakes and 12 cups if you buy their two pack, you get double this.If you are designing a new irrigation system, this product would be invaluable. Take the time to measure your water pressure and set up each circuit following the manufacturers recommendations. Before you bury the pipe on a circuit put these cups out and run the circuit. You might be surprised to find that you’re not getting the coverage you thought you were. If you’re like me and you’re fighting problems in a pre-existing system, it’s still a great tool for making decisions about moving heads or adding circuits if necessary. Don’t waste your money on the cheap Chinese yellow cups.

works alright, a little high for every system i have used, solution is to drive in the provided spike, remove spike, and take cup and stick it down into the hole you made you the spike, bringing the level of the cup much lower.

There's not a whole lot to like or dislike about this product. It catches water, and you read off the amount. Just for reference since I went through the calculations: The side of the cup appears to be calibrated in cc's, and I was trying to calibrate that to inches or precipitation. It turns out that capturing 25cc's, which is nominally 1", must be divided by 4 to get the actual precipitation rate. In other words: Capturing 50cc's of liquid means 1/2" of precipitation. If you use the Orbit website you won't have to worry about that anyway. One tip: Running zones with spray type sprinklers for 10 minutes works great, but if you're using rotors, I would suggest running them for 20 minutes when you go through the measuring process. 10 minutes is too short of a time to capture enough liquid to accurately measure.AND DON'T FORGET TO ADJUST YOUR SPRINKLERS! If you're going to go through this hassle, then work at getting your zones to give you good efficiency (65% +). If not, adjust heads, move sprinklers, different nozzles, etc. By reworking my sprinkler system and using the catch cups, I was able to reduce my overall watering time by 90 minutes!
