This box won't make a sound. No chalk on the box, so I put a tiny bit on it to see if it would work, nothing. Just smooth wood on both paddle and box rib.

It works but just doesn’t produce a good deep call. It was a good beginner call but you will end up buying a better call if you are serious about hunting.
