Somebody should tell them that this is NOT a music stand, LOL. As a flute mop, though, it works fine. It's not terribly dense, but that means it works for a tapered Irish fute, for instance. I bought several, to better dry a wooden flute. So I liked the first one well enough to buy several more. I also like the plastic end caps to reduce damage to the cork at the end of the flute.

Easier to use than the wooden stick with cloth to clean inside of flute.

Works as intended. This cleaner was suggested to my daughter over others by her peers in her flute section and her director. No leftover fuzz and gets the gunk out!

This does a great job to dry the flute and it is easy to store in the flute as well.

Okay, this item should NEVER be used as both a swab AND a pad saver at the same time. Pick one or the other. If you use it as a swab, DO NOT put it back into your flute for storage. Here is what I recommend: Use a cloth to swab the inside of your flute after playing. Remove as much moisture as you can. Then insert the pad saver into your flute where it will stay, pulling away any remaining moisture from your pads until the next time you use your instrument. This has worked for me for 25 years. Only replaced a few of my pads once when I was younger and uninformed.

Germs are Bacteria or Viruses. Viruses such as the H1N1 can last up to 8 hours on an inanimate surface. Viruses can only get into a flute if they are put there by coughing or from the saliva by a sick flutist. Viruses will not be found on a flute with a healthy flutist playing it. Bacteria can only survive in a warm moist climate with a substrate to feed on. Bacteria such as staph come from the unwashed fingers/hands from the flutist (touching your nose, blowing your nose) or putting the flute down onto a contaminated surface such as your desk. These bacteria will be found on the outside surface only. Certain pathological bacteria such as Pseudomonas found on the sponges in your sink, in the drains of your sink or tub, in swimming pools etc. - could theoretically develop in areas inside the flute in the dark which permanently remains wet or moist. This cannot happen if the flute is dried internally. Therefore the Flute Pad Saver does not spread germs - you do - they come from you yourself. They cannot survive on the Pad Saver. If your pads are dried without mechanical damage by whatever means, that is the main thing - cigarette paper is not a panacea - it is still abrasive. So all the reviews using the non-existent, unscientific, subjective germ theory reasoning, is absolute rubbish and should be taken with a pinch of salt. PS how do I know - I'm trained in this stuff. Ignore all of this ignorance - if you want to use it, use it - it will do you and/or your flute no harm. Wash it the same amount as you wash the rag that you use now. Get a new one once a year. But do not fall for mumbo jumbo. If you don't want to use it because of Voodoo then don't because Chicken Little said the sky is falling down!
