It seems like it's pretty well built. Just got it in April of 2022 so don't know how good it is in sealing out the cold or heat. Our two small dogs, 11 pound and 20 pounds are slowly getting the hang of using it. We have to tie up one flap til they get used to going thru the one flap with ease. I wish there were instructions on how to, if indeed you can, remove one flap til they get the hang of using the door.

I bought the medium-size Ruff Weather door and wall kit together, and I'm posting this review for both. This door is designed well in many different ways. The magnets are strong, the pieces fit together well, the flaps are easily removed for cleaning or replacement, and it keeps outside air out! I couldn't even blow it open with my leaf blower. I am impressed with the build quality of everything and the simple design with the door, the wall kit and the sliding panel to close it off. Note that the wall kit is only designed to work with Ideal Ruff Weather doors, not original doors. Read the title before buying things! My dog, who is a 13-pound Coton de Tuléar with fear of change, has been quickly learning to use it over the past few days, and he likes the treats that accompany going through his door.I installed the door through a 5 1/2"-thick stucco wall by following the instructions included with the door and the wall kit. Finding a clear spot in the wall and cutting through stucco and the plywood behind it is scary but not too difficult with the right tools. Another reviewer named G. Smith mentioned cutting a small hole in the wall first and feeling around to make sure nothing is in the way. That is something I should have done, so I wouldn't have needed to make such a big patch when I found a reinforcement board up against the outside wall in the first spot I chose. The template was accurate and very helpful, and after using a drill, utility knife, angle grinder, circular saw and hand saw, I got it installed and functional and looking good. Make sure to caulk where the pieces join on the inside in case you get a big rain, which could run into the tunnel a bit. The vinyl gasket on the outside looks like it seals well, but I caulked around it because my wife wanted me to. When I cut the long bolts from the wall kit, I used the 1/4"x20 nut trick indicated in the wall kit instructions after cutting through them with the same blade used to cut the stucco. I also sliced my fingers a few times on the sharp cut edges of the bolts. Derp... file those down or wear gloves or something. Anyhow, I am very happy with this purchase and looking forward to a better night's sleep.

I have 2 cats for which I bought this for. I debated on getting the smaller version, which is more designed for cats, but I opted for the next size up, thinking the larger of my cats might find it difficult going through a small pet door.INSTALLATION: For never putting a pet door inside a "human" door, I actually found it fairly easy. The door I installed this in was the typical metal-construction type door with insulation on the interior. I removed the door from the hinges, made the appropriate tracings, then drilled 4 pilot holes. I then used a sabre saw with fine teeth to cut the hole out for the pet door on each side. This was the most critical part, because I had to make sure the openings on each side of the door were lined up with each other. After making a few minor adjustments to the opening with the saw, the pet door fit in perfectly! From taking the door off, cutting the hole and assembling the pet door, to putting it back up again, only took me about an hour.CAT USE: Since this was new for my cats, I decided to let them get use to it slowly. It was nice weather when I did this, so I began with taping both flaps open so the cats knew they could use the new opening in the door as an entrance and an exit. After a few days, I lowered one flap. The cats were a bit confused at first, not sure what to do. The clicking noise of the magnet, which prevents the flaps from blowing in the wind, kinda startled them a little. But, after showing them that with a little affort the flap would open, they slowly got use to going in and out with no problem. I let them use just one flap for about two weeks because I wanted them to get very comfortable with the pet door before I lowered the 2nd flap. When I lowered the 2nd flap, the cats didn't seem to be detered by this, and just saw it as another minor obstacle between them and getting outside, which they love to do. Within a few weeks, I determined that they had adjusted very well with their new door to the world.TIPS: During the entire "training period" when you are encouraging your cats to use the pet door, do NOT give in and let them in and out by opening the "human" door for them. It's called tough love. If they really want in or out, they'll figure it out. They are cats!SUMMARY: When I first got the pet door, I thought it might have been too big for my cats. Or, that they would be afraid of it. But, my cats love going outside, so I figured if they really want outside bad enough, they'll figure the whole pet door thing out. They did.I would highly recommend this pet door, it is of high quality and appears to be one of the better brands out there. Well worth the money!

The door itself is made of a durable plastic with the outside part having some weather stripping for a more secure fit. The flaps are a flexible plastic that form a good seal so wind does not enter the house (even during an Arizona haboob). Installation would have been quite easy had I not gone through the wall and used the extension kit. Cutting through the wall was no problem. The extension kit only comes with one sety of long bolts. When assembling the door and extension the bolts ended up being to long, the soft (cheap) bolt head became stripped trying to undo the too long bolts and needed to be cut. No hardware store carried the proper size bolt so I had to improvise with a threaded rod (major pain). What would have been an hour or so installation ended up being four hours with trips to the hardware store and all.Bottom line, the dog door is great, the extension kit/extension installation is poor.
