The wind chain for the storm door prevents the door from over-extending. When a door opens too much, potential damage to the hinges and the closer can occur. The door stop chain is made from high-quality steel and is plated to protect it from various elements. The door wind chain includes a larger high-profile door bracket that keeps the chain further away from the glass and helps to reduce the chance of contact. This is more common in very thick storm doors but can be used on all doors. All screws, brackets, and instructions are included. This is original equipment quality. One thing is that they say measure out 18" from the door frame to mount. That distance should actually be half the width of your door. They are assuming a 36" door. Our laundry room door is actually 32" so be mindful of that. Painted white could be a bit better quality. Seems like a spray can painted it.

the instructions are usable, and I was able to install it with little difficulty -- just use a drill to make pilot holes. The screw heads are a little big for the door-side clamp. but I think it will serve its purpose. It's nice to have white to match the door.

The wind blows so strongly in my backyard sometimes that the first chain which was installed actually broke from the strain. The old chain did not have the small spring to add tension to the chain like this one does. This one will not fall apart like my old one. I am so happy that I won't get any more damage to my door, which slammed open and got a ding. Now I can fix that and be done!

Our previous storm door did not have a safety chain, and had to be replaced after being damaged by the wind catching it and slamming it open. When we bought a new storm door, we purchased this chain to protect it.The safety chain installs easily, and it works well. It will protect the door from opening too far. The spring keeps it from abrupty stopping, and I like that it's painted white to match the door.

I needed this specific design because the frame of my storm door was lower than the wood door frame, this metal drop was perfect for my needs. You can't get a design like this at a typical home improvement store. But more importantly, the stores I went to clearly had less durable chains than this one. This is a visibly more heavy duty chain than conventional versions. And boy, does it work. After a huge windstorm came through I had opened the door and it got away from me, and instead of snapping back hard it just gently rested, held in place by the chain. I've already busted my frame twice (thus requiring this chain) so to see a huge force of wind hit the door and for the door to hold fast, that was wonderful. I highly recommend this chain.

Paid a little more for the white-painted model so it would match my new storm door, but I'm afraid the paint won't protect it for long from rusting at our beach house - wish it was offered in stainless steel.Installation was simple & even though it seemed like it might interfere with the upper door closer, operation seems fine. It does its job when a strong wind yanks the door right out of your hand. The rest of the time, you don't even notice it's there.
