The jamb issue I seek to address is both horizontal and vertical placement. Fix-a-latch has a vertical lip that limits how far back the strike plate can by placed. I need an eighth inch more and will likely return the item. Other than that, quality seems good.

Verify you have at least the door Gap listed in the description. As long as you do it should work fine. Be aware you might have to chisel out the opening in your door jamb a bit more..

My house is now several years old and has settled a bit (as they do). A couple of the door latches no longer perfectly lined up with the striker plates. This is an easy fix for that. I tried adjusting the hinges, etc first, but when that didn't work, I tried these. Easy install (even I could do it!) using only a Philips head screw driver. Voila! Door fixed! My cat can no longer slam into the door to open it while I"m in the shower! LOL. I would buy again. One note: Packaging was not great. It arrived with the package open and the parts were loose in the shipping bag.

So, to be honest, for looks, I'm not a big fan of the white plastic piece. However, the white plastic piece allows you to make a repair without enlarging the hole in the doorframe where the latch goes. But using the plastic piece, I was able to make a very quick repair when I had children visiting and I needed to be able to lock a door to keep them out! When I get around to it, I'll remove the white plastic piece, and install the brass part into the door frame. But that will take some extra work.

I’m a mom who never got privacy because my door stopped locking due to the wood inside the hole breaking. It does slightly stick out because it is wider than my door frame but it isn’t a huge deal. It also is a little tight but nothing a hip push doesn’t solve and a little bit of elbow grease to open lol. Still, for what I need, instead of installing a new frame, this gets the job done on a budget

I live in a 98 year old house whose doors will not stay closed. The house has settled and there is a 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap between the door edge and the striker plate. These striker plates go over the old plates and it is not necessary to remove the old plate. The only thing you may have to do is use a longer screw in the bottom screw hole if it rests over an area where the wood has been removed for prior door latches. You can have doors that actually stay closed without having to hire a carpenter or remove the doors. Great product that actually does what it claims to do.
