This unit has NO safety certification. No UL. No ETL. The description is misleading. It says it is a "10 year" detector, but reading the fine print, the 9 volt battery must be replaced yearly and the service life of it is 10 years. It comes with a 9 volt carbon-zinc battery. It is made in China. Most brand name units use 9 volt alkaline batteries. It actually does detect smoke. I held a smoldering piece of punk near it and the detector did alarm. Because this has no UL certification, I would not trust it. I would suggest you get a brand name smoke detector that is UL listed.

I’m really impressed with this smoke detector! It was a breeze to install and works exactly as expected. The photoelectric sensor gives me peace of mind, and I love that it's battery-operated, making it super convenient with no need for hardwiring. The 9V battery ensures long-lasting operation, and the compact design fits neatly on the ceiling without being obtrusive. I feel safer knowing I have this reliable detector in place. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to upgrade their home safety!

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends having 2 kinds of smoke detectors: the older ionization kind - which is good for detecting sudden flames - and the photoelectrical kind - which is good at detecting smoke. And then there are ones that are hybrid. This one is compact and seems to be working well, and it helpfully includes a 9V battery.

comparable with any other detector i've had. i was figuring how would i ever get a chance to give a proper review, heck, smoke inside the house is not good and just pressing the test button doesn't really do it, you know? the question "is it going to work when needed?" looms large. and i can say yes.so, my experience...let me say the location for this is at the base of a staircase that leads to bedrooms.a few days ago, stovetop fry cooking in a cast iron pan, i got distracted and ran upstairs for a second that turned into minutes and let the culinary delights in the pan fry themselves into a smoky, crispy nothing. the alarm went off with an ear piercing high pitched siren. i was in the far back room where i sleep nightly and got a first hand test that i wouldn't sleep through this alarm, it will be heard. downstairs, the rooms were smoke filled from chest to ceiling. so yes, it does what it's supposed to do, wail like an air raid siren. looks fairly attractive, mounts very easy by using the supplied base, and i like the clever way the battery gets replaced.battery life and changing it yearly regularly are a must for any smoke detector, ul tested or not. i save my used, changed yearly detector batteries, like i bet most of you do, to use in other applications. i took for granted all smoke detectors also were carbon monoxide sensors as well. i was wrong. it didn't say it did co monitoring in the description or in the box. oh well, for that i'll know better next time, my fault on that.i'm happy with this detector from just that one cooking mishap of a test and i am confident it'll work perfectly if needed at anytime. and change those batteries yearly as mandated by ALL manufacturers and your local fire departments.

When I saw this detector could mount magnetically, I just had to try it. In my workshop I have had problems with other detectors going off with false positives in the presence of sawdust kicked up by my power tools (table saw, etc.) in spite of running dust collection.Since this can be "unmounted" with a simple "pull" to disengage magnetic mounting it seems ideal to temporarily remove if false positives prove to be a problem in certain environments with temporary "problematic" activities.I've tested it in my kitchen with both the test button and smoke, but have not yet worked on a woodworking project, so I can't yet comment on whether it will generate false detections from sawdust. But if it DOES, I'll have an easy workaround!Important side note: California has some of the most ridiculous smoke detector rules. One of these is that new detectors now need to use a non-removable, non-replaceable 10 year battery (unless the detector is linked to others in a "smart home" type configuration). I hate this because it leads to even more landfill waste vs replacing a battery every year. I have seen smoke detectors last well over 30 years and they still operated fine, including actually responding even to small amounts of test smoke from the other side of a room. Why do I mention all this? This detector is currently shipping into California. I'm not sure how this is achievable, but you might like this product availability, especially for rooms/areas which do not statutorily need a smoke detector. Consider, however, consulting your lawyer and/or building-code knowledgeable professional.
