I was expecting the felt to be a little stiffer than it is, it does feel quite flimsy, I know it has to be soft enough to roll but it seems too soft, like it would be easier to roll if it were just a bit thicker. It also came very creased up from being folded and took a lot of ironing to mostly get the creases out, even then some of the stubborn creases remained, I don't know why they didn't send it rolled instead.I personally wish the markings on the mat had not been so vivid white, it distracted from the puzzle while I was making it, if they had put the markings in darker colour so you could still see them but not bright white against black it would have been preferable. The markings are useful, just wish they weren't so distracting.The trays are great, simple, idea just squares of felt with snaps that you snap together to turn them into trays, they are very useful and nice that you can unsnap them and store them flat when not in use.All in all it did the job it was supposed to do, you get a mat with markings for the different puzzle sizes, an inflatable tube to go into the centre of the mat and hold the puzzle in place when you roll it up, a pump to blow the tube up, 6 felt squares with snaps so you can snap them together to turn them into trays to sort your puzzle pieces, 3 straps to hold the mat closed when rolled up and a storage bag.

Recently, I have developed fondness of large jigsaw puzzles with 500 pieces and more. Biggest challenge is when you are not getting continuous time to solve the puzzle, it takes days to make it. So it occupies the space wherever working on the puzzle; be it dining table or coffee table. Moreover, if small kids are visiting, there are more chances that they may disturb the arrangement and you may have to re-do part of the puzzle. This roll away, puzzle saver is very handy where I can easily fold the entire puzzle quickly and put it out when not working on the puzzle and put it in closet. When needed open is start working on it. So no more space occupied by the puzzle and no fear of someone disturbing the puzzle.

I had been contemplating getting one of these portable puzzler keeper mats for a while. I had seen mixed reviews, and the prices I had seen for the ones with the best reviews was more than I was willing to pull the trigger for.That said, when I saw the opportunity to try this one out I was thrilled.This one is definitely on the lower end from a pricing standpoint, so that was good, but once I saw the materials I realized why. The mat itself is a thin piece of felt material with printed templates of different puzzle sizes on it. It arrives folded so the fabric is heavily creased and not usable right out of the package. The instructions say to iron it with a warm iron on the unprinted side which I did. That helped some but didn't even nearly remove the creases. It did help more when I put the iron on the steam setting but then had to be very careful not to let the iron get so hot as to scorch the fabric. The thing that finally got it to be crease free after ironing, was to roll it up without a puzzle in it and let it stay rolled for 3-4 days, that worked. A lot of work just to get the creases out!The next issue is the plastic inflatable inner tube that you roll the puzzle mat around. It's made of thin plastic that has to be inflated, either by blowing it up with your mouth or using the included manual pump. Think of the consistency of a cheap beach ball. That's the thickness of the plastic in this tube. I had my doubts that it would stay inflated without leaking air but it did seem to be still be fully inflated after several days stored both with and without a puzzle. My main issue with it is that it's thin plastic that can be easily punctured and if that happens the whole mat is unuseable. (warning: If you have a playful kitty with sharp claws like I do, keep them away from the tube)It comes with sorting trays which are ok but I prefer to sort my pieces on a drawer or other large flat surface so I only have to turn them rightside up once. The trays allow you to sort, but you are still constantly having to handle the sorted pieces in order to see the top side so I typically don't use the trays. The trays are made of the same thin felt as the mat.As far as function, it did keep my 500 piece puzzle mostly together. You need to have a good amount of the puzzle assembled for it to work best. For instance, if you only have the frame/edges assembled, several pieces will be dislodged when you open it back up. Having more of the puzzle assembled provides more stability and allows the pieces to stay together despite being rolled up. I did find that when I left the puzzle rolled for 4-5 days without working on it the puzzle pieces were slightly curved when I opened it, so I think you need to be willing to work on the puzzle frequently in order not to permanently damage the pieces. I think this might be remedied by making the plastic roller a wider diameter allowing the pieces to potentially lie more flat when rolled, and making the roller out of a firmer more dense material as opposed to thin inflatable plastic.It also comes with three strong velcro straps to keep the felt mat in place around the roller. They worked well. Also a thin plastic storage bag to store the rolled up puzzle which was cheap quality but worked fine.Overall I wasn't impressed with this puzzle mat. Perhaps if you have a young child who is just starting out with puzzling and you don't want to spend for an expensive mat or table this might be a reasonable affordable alternative. But for an avid experienced puzzler I wouldn't recommend this.I did give it 3 stars because I was able to get it to do what it was supposed to do albeit not easily or perfectly.

I intended to give this to my mother-in-law since she enjoys puzzles, but the packaging is really poor and lacking. I thought it would arrive neatly rolled in a long box, but instead, it came in a Ziploc bag. It even instructs to iron it before use, which is just inconvenient. Now, I have to send it back and find an alternative.
