I researched a bunch of these things and Amazon is pretty sparse when it comes to hot plates. While this one might seem expensive, I would say it's a really great value.Heats up pretty quick. Feels like it has been made with quality parts. You can tell it's well designed. I had a batch foam over and the electrical ports are protected with a nice little lip.The one thing I don't like is that you have to turn off the heat and stirrer to modify the temp and speed but overall it's been a good buy.

I have had this item for 3 years now and it is working just as reliably today as it did 3 years ago. I have bought several brands of hot plate/stirrer and this model from Joanlab is the only one that works properly. I have and still do get GREAT support from this company! Thanks!

This is my first hot plate, so admittedly I don’t know exactly what I was expecting or can compare it too, but here we go.Everything works as should mechanically. Some of the features could be easier to work with and more helpful imo. My biggest gripe is it never seems to be able to hold the temperature I want it set too. For example if I set it to 100c it will go anywhere from 100-130 back and forth. I don’t know if this is user error, or a fault with the product, but it makes working with temperature sensitive liquids difficult. Will be buying something else in hopes it works better. Take that for what you will.

Great value for money - works just as well as versions sold from scientific supply companies

This stirrer keeps tempature amazingly but the cord that was shipped is faulty and I have to bend it upwards to keep the device from turning off. Hopefully ordering a new one will fix and it isn't the device itself.

When I first ordered this, I knew I wanted a higher-spec magnetic stirrer than the one I had, which was admittedly pretty basic. But going in, I'll admit I didn't really expect the temperature probe and hot plate to be as accurate as it was. I figured if I was within 5 degrees of where I had it set, I was probably ok.Well, I filled a beaker with about 500ml of 2-pass RO water and set it all up to test it. Just to see for myself what kind of accuracy I could reasonably expect.Heating didn't take long, and went quite quickly. Stir power is pretty good, though I wish I could go below the low point of 50 rpm...10 rpm would be an ideal minimum, but...it's a petty gripe. The top speed of 1500 rpm is quite robust, to say the least. What really surprised me was the heating accuracy. I found the temperature that I measured with a separate high-quality digital thermometer and found it generally closer than half a degree. And it kept it there, very steadily, varying maybe a degree in total. Wow...very nice.So who's this for? Because certainly there are cheaper hot plate stirrers out there. You can pick one up for $50, $60 bucks. Why spend $200?If the type of work you do only requires you to "add heat", or "make it boil", or low-spec type work like that, you don't need a $200 hot plate / stirrer. This allows you to achieve PRECISE TEMPERATURES and maintain them. So if you need to heat an experiment to, say, 85c for 30 minutes, or whatever, this is where you want to be. Hot plate / stirrers with dial controls won't let you set 85c...or 37c...or 150c...you turn the knob until it's hot enough, and if it requires temperature monitoring, you have to have a temp probe figured into your glassware setup. This eliminates the necessity to maintain a separate temp probe on your material and having to fine-tune your setup as you go. If you set it at 95c it will hold 95c.It's not the cheapest solution, but the performance of this is pretty outstanding from my experience. This will be at home just about anywhere, from the home kitchen lab using it to make yeast starters to the chemist looking to run complex distillations.I can't recommend it more highly.

HECK YEAH SCIENTIFIC EQUIPMENT ROCKSThis baby spins and heats up the stuff I need it to do. I make my own liquid capsules and prior to this i've been using a 3D printer as my hotplate and stirring manually hoping that I dissolve everything I need to. This has eliminated my need for that setup. The only complaint I really have is that the stir-rod is a bit large and caused some splashing when testing with water. Either get a taller cylinder or container - or get more stir rods. It's not really the products fault but I was glad to see them include a rod anyways. I wouldn't have been able to test it out otherwise.Setup was a breeze. Unbox, plug in turn on, select settings and let er' rip! Would highly recommend to anyone else making their own vitamins or chemistry peeps. Either way its a great device and product.
