This is something that not everyone knows about but can prevent a whole lot of problems in the future. I had a deck replaced about 10 years that had rot on the top of the joists and everything had to be torn out and replaced. They used this type of product on my new joists underneath the Trex that was put down. I check it every year from underneath and the joists are still hard after all this time. I use a small screw driver to poke under the tape here and there to gauge the hardness of the wood. This is well worth the time and investment. I am using this to replace wood decking on my front and back porch that are pretty new. I will be putting this on the stringers and using Trex in place of the wood. Such a simple thing but one that will keep a problem from occurring. Well worth it, I highly recommend.

Joist tape is great for so many other things than just putting on your deck joists. This roll is going to be used to block up the holes in old tin roofing. I bought a bunch of antique tin roofing and there are holes from the previous install and this is the quick and easy - and effective way to make it waterproof again. Since I'm using very small squares this roll should last for a long time.Of course this can be used as joint top tape. It's super sticky and the film comes of very easily. This stuff is grea.

Performs as well as others I have tried and there seems to be a large amount of this type of product available her on Amazon in just the past year. As good or better than what you can get a t the big-box store - but much lower cost. If you are building a deck or any other wooden structure with joists exposed to the weather, this is a good price / performance value. How long will it add to the life of the structure? I probably will not be around to find out.

When you are repairing or building a deck which we are doing both, you want it to last so you don't have to repeat the costly expense of a rotting or broken floor joist especially. When you use joist tape and this one is an extraordinary example, you can avoid wood that can rot prematurely. This EDNIFLORAL JOIST TAPE was easy to use, came off the roll easily and it stuck when I put it down which a lot of joist tapes don't do.You can't go wrong with this tape AND it is very reasonably priced! FIVE STARS!

I’m replacing the deck boards on a deck and using this butyl tape this time. After 15 years, some of the structural 2x lumber was beginning to rot. Hopefully, this will prevent rotting on the new deck. The tape has clear plastic on the sticky side that you remove and then stick to the 2x lumber. The clear plastic can be difficult to remove but using a thin knife to get under the plastic and pull it back helps. The tape is wider than standard 2x lumber which makes the installation easier. The tape can wander a little and still have plenty of overlap on each side of your 2x lumber. I’ve found the butyl can leak out and make unrolling the tape difficult on some brands. Not so with this tape, the butyl is all intact. I tried a small piece, and it sticks well. New treated lumber can be very wet which will limit adhesion. Letting it dry for a few days may help initial adhesion. Adhesion is only an issue until your deck boards are installed. I’ve found that stretching the tape a little before sticking down, then pressing down with your hand works just as well or even a little better than smoothing with a putty knife. Most brands of joist tape that I have purchased look identical. I suspect there is one manufacturer for much of the tape available and individual companies then add their own label.

Got this tape to further protect the new stair stringers on the deck stairs I'm replacing. Obviously I can't say that it "works", because that won't be known for a few years, but it certainly is easy enough to install. WAY easier to work with than the bituminous stuff. I did experience some issues with the release liner, similar to other reviewer's comments, but it wasn't a huge deal for me because I was only applying 10" pieces. the only improvement I can think of is that it could stand with being a bit wider, so the fold-overs had a little more contact on the sides of the stringers. I had to use a rubber roofing roller to makes sure they sides stayed stuck down.

My husband is repairing a deck. He installed a test strip of this tape on a deck joist when it was 40F. The tape adhesion was good. After 4 weeks with temperatures ranging between 20 to 70F, he looked at it and it appeared to still be sticking to the joist. He tried to remove the tape and was not able to peel it off. The tape adheres well and will be used for the deck-repair project.
