About this item

  • ACCURATELY MEASURES SOIL PH - Lawns thrive in soil with pH levels between 6.2 and 7.0. Our soil test kit accurately determines soil pH levels in just 10 minutes.
  • WHEN TO TEST LAWN SOIL - Testing your yard's soil should be routine when preparing beds (Fall), before planting (Spring), and periodically during the growing season. If your grass is not growing well, a soil test may help indicate what is wrong.
  • MULTIPLE USES - Our soil testing kit includes 10 soil tests for multiple pH readings. These tests are fast, easy, and only take a few minutes.
  • USE DISTILLED WATER OR RAINWATER - It's important to use distilled water or rainwater when performing tests in order to get accurate pH readings. Tap water that has been pH adjusted by municipal water authorities will affect the reading.
  • COMPLETE SOIL TESTING KIT - The kit includes 10 pH test capsules, one water dropper, a color comparator, complete instructions for adjusting soil pH, and a pH preference list for over 450 plants for the lawn, garden, and home.

This is really not a actual reading after sampling , just approx. Best to spend the 10 bucks and go to your local agriculture center and submit a soil sample, if using it to PH your lawn.

Just moved into a new townhouse but the landscapers aren't that great. When I owned a single family home all I used was JG seed and my yard had great curb appeal when I sold it. I decided to redo the lawn here myself so wanted to check the soil ph level. It looked like it was in the normal rage but I'm not positive since the soil makes the water dirty. I'll double check it again in the Spring.

The gist is you add some soil, a capsule, and water to a test tube to set levels, shake and let the test settle before reading the acidity-alkaline scale to see what you have. Simple. However, the color match to the scale and my soil sample is not even close - sample is dark brown - neither on the scale of light brown (slight acid) nor one of the shades of green (neutral to alkaline). Cannot determine what the match level is to properly amend the soil.

This does work if you just want ball park accuracy. There are better kits but they certainly cost more. You could also send soil sample to your local extension. Soil Ph is #1 thing you can do to get a healthy lawn.
