Don’t really understand how it is only halfway “moist” when I put the thing in a CUP OF WATER. The PH also wrong—PH of water is 7, not 4….doesn’t work

For just around $10, this is an excellent little soil water tester. It's well made and durable, easy to use, and has all the features you'd want from it. The tilting head makes it easy to see the results no matter where your plant is, which is a feature I appreciate a lot. It comes with instructions as well as a guide for what water level you want, as well as a little tab of sandpaper to clean the tip with. After you push it into the soil it only takes a couple seconds to get an accurate reading of how wet the soil is, no finger test and guess (and no batteries!) required. It's not designed to be left in the soil and you in fact can't just leave it in; it needs to be taken out and wiped clean after every use. Additionally, you can't ever wash it with water or you'll ruin it for good, it can only ever be wiped clean with a dry cloth, and sandpaper can be used to clean the tip off when needed. Both of these are small complaints that are due to how it's made and why it works without batteries, so it's a trade-off you'll have to consider for yourself. It's simple and straightforward to use: you just push the tip down deep into the soil and you'll have an accurate reading for how much moisture is in the soil. The little tip moves pretty quickly, and it really is essentially an instant reading. You can't leave the tip in the dirt, and you need to make sure it's clean when you store it, because if it oxidizes (through water) it won't work right and you'll have to sandpaper the tip a bit.Overall, I definitely recommend this little soil moisture tester, especially if you're like me and you've got a lot of container plants with different moisture needs.* I only review things that I personally use myself on a regular and continued basis.* I always give my full, honest, unbiased and unfiltered opinion on everything I review.* I will not hold back or avoid describing any issues I have with a product.* I write exactly what I think about things - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the questionable.* If I get multiple of something it's because I regularly use and need both of them.* And, I will update my review if something breaks, stops working as intended, or otherwise doesn't hold up as expected.

I wanted a better way to monitor my plants moisture level than using my finger or looking at the leaves. This moisture meter promised that but it’s difficult to use. The probe is thick and doesn’t work well for small potted plants. You have to move it around and put it at different depths to get an accurate reading. I wish it was easier to use. I wouldn’t recommend this unless you are really bad at telling if your plants need to be watered.

I have an indoor garden of herbs in pots. What I like is that it measures light, moisture, nutrients and ph. It seems to be accurate, but it’s important to read and follow the directions for proper care and use of this meter.
