We recently had to replace our ice maker, and decided to give this one a go, which turned out to be a great decision. While not perfect, this thing is great as a countertop ice machine! The Good:1. Makes Nugget Ice - There are a few different styles of ice that can be made by countertop machines, but I feel that the nugget style is the most satisfying. It feels like something you'd expect to find in a 90s Pizza Hut drink or something. It's also pretty easy to chew on, if that's your thing.2. Quiet - I was surprised how (relatively) quiet this thing is. It's obviously not silent when it's actually producing the ice, but it's waaaaaay more quiet than our old one, which had itself been advertised as "whisper quiet". This one, though, actually is that quiet, to an extent that I don't need to worry about it overtaking the other sounds in the room.3. Ease of use - This isn't so different from other ice makers, but it's still nice to basically be able to control everything with just two buttons. The Bad:1. Big - While all countertop ice machines tend to be bulky, this one is even bigger than most, taking up nearly a square foot of counter space.2. Takes a bit to start up - Unlike with other ice nugget machines, this one really needs a couple of rounds of ice to be created before you get some useable pieces. Before that, it's a bit slushy. So don't expect particularly usable ice for at least ten minutes.Still, overall those are pretty minor complaints for me, and I'm overall happy with this being an addition to our kitchen for our cold drink needs.

This ice machine is very durable. Super easy to clean, can be stored on your counter, or compact enough to hide in your cabinet. Great way to make fast ice, cubed, small.

Overall, this is a quality chewy ice maker that makes ice similar to what you will find at Sonic and with the GE Profile Opal 2.0 machine. For this review, I will be comparing it with the Opal, which is of similar cost. There are some important things to remember with ice makers when you set them up. First it is very important that you let it sit the first 24 hours to allow the oil to flow back into the compressor. Also, it is important to keep it level. To get started, it recommends running a cleaning cycle, which the solution is half vinegar and half distilled water. I found that I needed one cup of each to get the cleaning cycle to work vs the 1/2 cup of each that it recommended. The cleaning process was very easy, which is good, since you will want to clean it at least monthly. To add water to it, there is a trap door at the top. However, it could be difficult to open, if you push this under your cabinets. I think that the weird looking funnel device that came with it may help get around this design challenge. To fill it up, it uses about 8 cups of water, which makes about a whole tray of ice. The Opal we have used a side tank which was easier to fill up.The KeyEnergy ice maker is compact at about 12in x 10, which is about 4 inches less deep than the Opal so it won't take up a lot of space on your counter. However, with the smaller size, the size of the ice tray is also smaller. After plugging it in, I filled it up with 8 cups of water, which took it to the fill line. It started making ice within 10 minutes and it took it about an hour to fill up the ice tray. While making ice, it was around 70-75 db loud, which was in line with what I experienced with our Opal. The controls on the device are very simplistic. There is a power button, make ice button, and a clean button. They are clearly labeled and easy to use. One thing I wished it had was a separate button for the light. It only kept the light on while it was making ice. With the Opal, there is a separate button to control the light. As for the quality of the ice, it was chewy but a little more solid than what the Opal produces. This could be due to the shape. The KeyStore's ice was more rectangular, while the Opal was more cylindrical with groves in it that weaken the ice. Both produce quality ice fairly quickly.Overall, this is a good compact ice maker. The compact size makes this perfect to take with you RVing or maybe to put in your home bar. The main issue I have with this is unit is the price. At the time of this review, it is going for just north of $400. There are other counter ice makers that are about half the cost. Plus for about the same cost, you could purchase the Opal 2.0, that comes with a side tank for longer ice production, a larger ice tray, and has more bells and whistles.
