Bought for my father-in-law for Christmas. Within a couple hours of use, it got really hot and the motor burned out.

Splurged and bought this for my new chainsaw carving hobby. It works great. Very light. It gets a little warm, so I suggest wearing gloves. I’ve found that I sometimes bump the speed knob when working, but not a big deal. So many attachments and they all work great!! So happy.

I've had big expectations from this tool. Really great idea to improve my carving results. But to my surprise, the engine stop working after a few hours of work. Certainly, I used it 3 times for maybe one and a half hours and it stopped. Tool for this price should endure working for years and not die within a day.I am disappointed and would very hesitate to recommend buying. I would love to connect with the manufacturer to explain if this is standard or if we may fix it.

I had such high hopes for this tool. I vacillated between the Merlin 2 and the Arbortech…went with the Merlin 2 and the first real day of use sanding, the motor quit working. I’m a Disabled Vet, so I’m not always able to get out to my shop the way I’d like. Too much time had gone by since the purchase and the time I started using it, so I’m stuck with a crappy paperweight. Will never buy Merlin woodworking products again!

It's a great tool. I like all the different disks available, makes the tool more versatile. I did worry about the small screw that holds the disks on the output shaft … if I dropped the screw, it would be easily lost, especially if I was using it outside. I just went to Lowes yesterday and found out it's a metric M4 screw and bought some replacements, just in case. Probably best to use the grinder with breathing protection. It generates a lot of dust.

Much smaller than I expected, but a great purchase so far. I sculpt face and body carvings as well as bowls. Great tool for the small reaches the angle grinder can’t hit and where the dremel doesn’t take enough material away.

I do driftwood sculpture and it is great for cleaning and carving. The adjustable speed is a necessary thing along witha face shield and leather glove on other hand.

I am so glad I finally purchased the Merlin 2! I had been researching getting a grinder for a while and the Merlin delivers on everything I've read and researched. I was surprised how quiet the grinder is although I've still been wearing hearing protection. I haven't tried all of the accessories yet, but so far it's been great using it for roughing out and cleaning up my carvings.
