I replaced an old, worn out weather station with this new model. The install took no more than fifteen minutes, the sensor synched immediately, and setting up the display was fast and easy. I've only had it working for two days but, so far it does what I want it to and has a couple of new features (predominant wind direction) that I really like. The unit is battery operated so placement of the monitor is cleaner. Hopefully the batteries will last for a reasonable period of time.

Very easy to setup. Used a mailbox post to mount the sensors. Once the post is level, the rain gauge is put where the mailbox goes and the wind sensor is mounted to the main post, 90 degrees from the rain gauge.

La Crosse must be out of favor with Amazon. In order to find this unit I had to go to the La Crosse website, find this feature rich B&W weather station, do a Google search and that search yielded this Amazon page. The high end weather station market is dominated by color displays all of which require backlights to read. I live solar electric and keeping my inverter on to power a wall wart is insane. One reviewer found the plastic cheap, I don't agree. Same ABS used by La Crosse and all other WS manufacturers. OTOH I found a number of design upgrades compared to past designs. The temperature bulb location stood out for it's location shielded from the sun in a very cost effective manner. If the solar panel doubles the battery life that will be a huge win. I need to drop the pole to access the batteries, a significant undertaking.Cost is another area of improvement, I paid $91, significantly lower in devalued dollars than past units. That unit did not have indoor temperature or day of the week. Another bonus of the modern base station is a much improved feature set and higher contrast B&W display. Easily seen in the comparison photo.I needed to replace my 10 YO Weather Channel branded WS (Made by La Crosse) because it ceased working after a thunder storm last week.I subtracted one star for the forecast pictogram on the lower right. I can look out the window and get all that information in real time. The display could have been smaller w/o that "feature".Neither plus or minus, the temperature displays on the 327-1417 base station but not the wind speed. OTOH running the 327-1417 transmitter wiped out all the outdoor readings of this display.2024 updateFew weeks ago the rain gauge stopped working, pair of new AA's problem solved.Last night the outside temp sensor read 0F, this morning the readings seemed correct, conclusion dead batteries and the solar panel gives enough juice during daylight.Replacing the 3-AAs is trivial except top of 20-ft pole is non-trivial. The generic AA's lasted 30 months.

Bought this to replace an older La Crosse weather station that had finally given up the ghost after 10+years. Choose another La Crosse because I liked the older unit. The first replacement I bought was a system with a color read-out which, it turned out, needed to be plugged in to a wall outlet. That was not apparent from the product description and did not work for me, so exchanged that for this system that can run off of batteries.Unfortunately, this new system is nowhere near as robust as the old La Crosse unit that I am replacing. The first one arrived with big scratches across the solar panel on the wind monitor, so I returned it for a replacement. The replacement had similar issue but not quite as bad so decided to keep it. Have now installed it and seems to be working, but the quality of the plastic on all of the components is extremely cheap and flimsy. This old unit had metal surround on the read-out -- this one is plastic. Old unit had robust plastic wind gauge needle and spinner -- this one is the cheapest possible materials. I cannot imagine this lasting very long out in the elements where it is designed to be -- it is a weather system, after all. Very disappointed at this stage, but we'll see how it goes...
