This review is for the Model TF1003 0.001x100g version of the balance.There’s a lot to like about this analytical balance scale. It has a lot of features and is very sensitive. The enclosing windscreen is a nice feature that prevents stray air currents and outside influences from upsetting the reading. There is a built-in bubble level and adjustable feet. The display is bright and clear and easy to read. The included RS-232 interface could be an essential feature if you need it.There are a few things I didn’t like about the scale. First, the LCD display had a slight rotation relative to the opening in its front panel. This is minor but still an annoying build problem. Another is that with the wide range of units one can choose from – the balance doesn’t remember which you selected after the power button is cycled. That’s too bad, because if you don’t want the default display units to be grams – it takes 19 pushes of the function button to cycle through all of them!The included instruction sheet has typographical errors, poor English, and is a bit lacking in details. This is sadly the case with many such products these days, but at least this one is in English. I’ve seen a lot worse, but a well-written and detailed instruction manual would be a welcome surprise.The balance has a four-bay battery compartment for AA cells, but it is recommended to use AC power.So, I made some test measurements. A penny: 2.547 grams. The included 50g calibration weight; 50.024 grams; and a small drop of water: 0.036 grams. The water droplet is one of my favorite tests, because the drop eventually evaporates. In this case, the scale was quite stable as the droplet slowly evaporated. But it didn’t return to exactly 0. Rather, it ended up at 0.006 grams. I’m not complaining about that – it could be temperature variations or who knows what. But it does show that resolution doesn’t necessarily confer accuracy.Overall, it’s a nice balance scale with a lot of sensitivity and good stability. Not perfect, but what is?

Closer to 4.5 stars but good enough that I rounded up. I got the TF1003 model which appears to be the lowest capacity model they offer at 100g max weight. Accuracy was already calibrated out of the box and was within the stated ±0.005g tolerance for the included 50g reference/calibration weight.The included power supply is 9V at 500mA, which makes it a bit confusing that the battery compartment takes 4 AA batteries which would give you 6V in series at best. Even the instructions don't recommend using battery power for this so I didn't even bother trying that as it seems it would seriously undervolt the unit and compromise the accuracy.Build quality looks ok at first glace but it's a bit rough when you get into the details. For instance there's no markings for the battery compartment or the power supply jack on the proper specs. The case is clearly a shared design for many of their models and so contains blanked out features, including a wide hole on the back intended for a rear display that's just covered with a sticker such that you can still feel the cutout. I also had an ill fitting rubberized plug on the bottom that fell out as I was moving this to the table. The pan's paint coating is also quite rough and already included one deep scratch. The pan was shipped without any additional protection other than the cardboard accessories box and had the power adapter packed in the same compartment. The windshield uses actual glass which is great, but there's no detent to keep the panels closed so moving the unit needs a bit of care. So decent quality for an average appliance but a bit lacking at lab quality.Display is good though with a very readable backlit LCD panel with a 7 digit display. Decent heft to the unit especially with the glass windshield but doesn't weigh so much that it's hard to level.

I like that it can be battery powered but also has the wall plug- everything is great about this scale except for the instrcutions and included weight.I have a pictures of the instructions listing the model number (highlighted) and the weight being 50g. When I follow the instructions to tare/cal it has the weight at 63.901. That's an odd weight... so I tried it on my other scale and got 64g, which checks out. It's also weird that it's weighted plastic as all other high end scales have a metal slug as a weight.I have no doubt that this scale is accurate, but I don't know why they'd include a 64g weight instead of 50g as listed....so ya, as I'm typing this review out- I was like there's no way they'd include a weight close to 50g so I started messing with the "weight" again and saw that it was a plastic case with the 50g weight included inside.Ok, so yes, 5 star review. Everything works as expected now, I guess I'm a jerk or just need more sleep.This thing is super accurate, from the adjustable feet, to the wind screen/glass containment.
