We use this for yeast for home brewing. It keeps them at a great, even temperature, and stirs them to keep from clumping. So far, so good. Really high price point, but for what it does, is very much worth it.

I use magnetic hotplate stirrers quite a bit, and in my experience, this is the best value for dollar spent right here. You can get pretty much the exact same thing from a professional lab supply place and you'll pay about 3x as much. Possibly more.I really like this style over a few other stirrers I have because this one lets you make adjustments on the fly. Some of my other stirrers, you have to stop the entire process, wait for the stir bar to stop moving completely, make any changes, and then re-start it. Not so here, you can adjust temp or rpm as it's running. The temperature probe seems to be fairly accurate, I'd say within a degree or 2 anyway. It's reversable, but this is just me being honest, I can't see myself needing to reverse the direction the stir bar is turning. Maybe if you're experimenting on spinning water, perhaps. But otherwise, it's kind of like ceiling fans...I've never understood why turning air clockwise or counterclockwise makes any difference. If you like that feature, it's here, but me, it makes no difference which way it spins. In all, this is just a champ. Lots of value for not a lot of money. If you're in the market for a magnetic plate stirrer, this is a fantastic way to go. 5 stars.

I used the magnetic stirrer in my lab and it delivered smooth mixing for my solutions. I like its steady heating which maintains precise temperatures and its forward and reverse functions add versatility to my experiments. It has a large capacity to handle multiple samples and the digital controls make adjustments simple. I love the compact design which fits well on my workbench and its metal heat plate should last a long time.

The stirrer is magnetic. It has a little pill you put in it and once in it stirs for you. You can set the temperature and spin speed and just leave it to do the job. You do not need to stand around and mix things yourself. It made my life simpler and I am more efficient in my job.

The heating element draws up to a bit under 100W at full tilt and around 20W at lowest setting. This is sufficient to boil very small quantities of water after a long wait, but certainly not 3L from room-temperature unless you're putting up a lot of extra insulation around your glassware and the hotplate and willing to wait a few hours. You will probably be better off pre-heating any liquid you're putting in, as this hotplate is better-suited to holding a temperature rather than bringing any substantial amount of something up to temperature. In cases where you don't need much heat (or don't want to risk burning even if the knob's accidentally bumped), this hotplate is fine for most uses, and the mixer & spinning magnet does do a pretty decent job at mixing to get a consistent output in liquids. The spinner is happy to knock solids of ~25-50g around as needed. While I'm underwhelmed by the heating element, as it restricts the uses of the device, it's more due to a mismatch of my expectations and what this product actually does; as stated earlier, the device is well-suited to maintaining a low boil and has very low risk of burning something, so if low & slow is your goal, this may be perfect for you.2025 edit: The stirring bar partially dissolved in a ~2%-concentration of malic and ascorbic acid (mostly malic) at below-boiling heat, imparting a deeply-penetrating and extremely disagreeable taste and odor. After ruling out alternative explanations, tossed the batch and the stirring bar, then took a shower.

This Lab fish stirrer hot plate works to my expectations. I was able to get it to spin really fast, the pill included is a great shape vs other stirrers. The hot plate got to my desired temperature as well. The only issue I have had so far is the two pieces that make up the support bracket will not screw into each other. There are burs on the threads so I will have to repair it when I need to use the support bracket. This is one reason I purchased this; it was due to the fact it included the holder and bracket. So, I deducted one star. Overall, I like it though.
