Needed to disassemble 38 year old heads from a Chevy truck. Had to hit the top of the pistons to help in the release of the keepers first. Tool had to be held/squeezed together and needed to grab the spring real close to the head as possible to compress while turning knob and squeezing tool together otherwise it slips off of spring. Heads were real dirty, full of gunk and sludge. Tool did the job once the technique was established.

No issues with this tool, other than it is a bit too big for Subaru Headwork. Other than that, it appeared to be a durable, easy to use tool - best applied on larger heads.

If you are doing Trick Flow springs on Ford GT40P heads this compressor will work if you are willing to grind or file the tool a bit. The TF springs are a larger diameter and will not fit in between the 4 vertical posts which center the spring in the tool (see pic). A few minutes with a file on the inside corners will get the job done. Tool is made well enough to complete a few jobs but wouldn’t expect a lifetime of use. Be sure to lube the threads well as I suspect that’s where the failure will be when it happens. Also as others have said, if you have a welder, weld a nut or old socket to the handle because it will destroy your hands after a few springs. All in all this compressor is a good value for the home mechanic who only intends to use it once or twice.

I cannot attest to the quality or durability of this tool, because I didn't make it that far with it. I purchased the tool to replace the valve seals in a 2002 GMC Sierra with an LS 5.3L. The tool is designed too narrow to release the keepers, as it covers one of them during removal. I had to run to a local parts house to get one that would work.It would likely work for a smaller engine, but it will NOT work on an LS series GM engine.

Wouldn't keep springs compressed without slipping off. Took twice as long to do the job and finally went and rented one from parts store to finish up.

Nice, but cheap valve spring tool. Works well on bbc springs. Star wheel hurts your hand after a bit thought. Wrapped a cloth around it and much better
