Product Description

LENOX 1095206A2016 BI-METAL UTILITY BITS 06A2016 6 X 1-1/4

From the Manufacturer

The Lenox Tools 1095206A2016 6-Inch by 1-1/4-Inch Bi-Metal Utility Bit is "Tougher than Nails". The high speed steel cutting edge provides long life in tough applications, including nail embed wood. The bit leaves clean holes and the three cutting edges allow the bit to be very fast. These bits can also be resharpened using the Lenox Diamond file for even longer bit life. Due to the smooth and effortless drilling, this bit is ideal for cordless drilling to extend battery life and the life of the tool.

This bit seems identical to the old irwin speedbor bits that had a 3/8 shank, and are much heavier built than their current 1/4" shank versions. These will drill smoothly and quickly through solid and laminate wood. Perfectly matched to a 1/2" heavy duty corded right angle or straight corded drill. Quicker, smoother and leaves a cleaner hole than spade bit.Downside - they say optimized for cordless drill use? I don't think that's true. This bit will stall a Makita brushless corded 1/2" drill if you don't have everything lined up right. But that's to be expected. This is a fast, aggressive bit.

As a plumbing apprentice you do a lot of drilling. And I can say that I've done a lot of drilling with these bits. (Specifically 1 3/8 for water)These things just eat through wood and spit shavings out the back nicely. What I like most about these bits is, if you're drilling down holes your bit will never get stuck because the shavings literally spew out of the hole instead of binding up directly behind the blades like other styles of bits. What I don't like about this bit is the 3/8 shank. A lot of hole hogs have quick connect systems that use 7/16 shanks and are doing away with the chuck and key system.I also don't like that it's practically impossible to use a file to sharpen these. Still though, I'm out drilling my peers with no contest. Even when the plades dull they out perform other self feeders.
