I needed to bore out two newly drilled holes in thick steel. Using this step bit and some cutting oil to keep the bit cool it worked like a charm.

I used this to cut a few holes into plastic and it worked like a charm. It seems like it would also make short work of wood, and maybe even metal. As long as this will drill a hole the size you need, it's a good option for the price. The hex bit is really nice as well, since it locks into my more powerful drill.

This step drill bit works well to deburr and chamfer existing holes in soft materials. Not intended to drill non existent holes. May not be used on ferrous metals. The bit works fine on soft metals such as brass,bronze,tin,and sheet metals, aluminum, plastics and wood. Each “step” is approximately 1/4” so the sizing of the bit indicates it is made for thin materials. I suggest using a lubricant for cutting metals to reduce heat build up and extend cutting edge sharpness.

I've seen these around forever, never tried one.But I had a plastic project box I needed some holes in, and a regular bit, as soon as it broke through, just screwed in. Had I hit the trigger harder, it would have broken the plastic.This thing rocked the job. You can go fast, you can go slow. It shaves stuff off rather than drilling through. Exactly what I needed.Later I had a metal component that needed a bigger hole. Normally I'd just drill it out, but this did it fast and left a more finished looking hole.May get a backup. I tend to lose stuff. 🙄
