It's never a bad thing to have a few extra of these carbon filters for your Camping Water Filter, I trust a carbon filter along with the usual Sawyer type water filter adding a bit more confidence to drinking filtered water from questionable sources. Just be sure you have the correct filter!

I'm stocking up on these. I've been taking the hanging water filtration system with me on longer hike in hike out trips. I can drink out of any stream or lake or creek or roadside ditch. No need to carry water with me. I love these things!

I got a new LifeStraw Flex and tried it out using tap water. Then I disassembled it and left the parts on the kitchen counter to dry out so I could store it. Our cat found the carbon filter during the night, and it became her new favorite chew toy. She didn't touch any other parts. For some reason, it was the carbon filter that she loved. I found it outside my bedroom door in the morning, covered with little tooth holes. I don't know how many other cats would attack this product, but now you've been warned!

They only effectively filter approximately 26 gallons of water (100 liters). In an emergency these will be essential. I live near a river and plan on sourcing drinking water from it during emergencies (earthquakes, NW). If you go this route buy more than you think you will need. It is said, one gallon per person per day. Plan on needing to provide water for a month just to be safe and buy accordingly.
