Let me start by saying if you are a GM tech and ever do rear drum brakes on the colorado/canyon or 1500's this will make your life better than it ever has been. This tool will immediately master ASE certify you. This tool will free your body of all aches and pains. This tool might even fix your broken marriage.Seriously though this tool is amazing for GM drum brakes with the horseshoe retainer. First time I saw it used I was dumbfounded and immediately bought my own. Why would you ever struggle with screwdrivers and picks when you could use this? It legitimately makes the job 100% easier. The only thing this tool doesn't do is the swap the shoes for you. If you work at a GM dealer, buy this tool and thank me later. You will not regret this.

Used this to change drums on a 2007 saturn ion2. Don't know how you would get the job done without it. Even with the tool fighting the tension on the single spring was a chore.

No much to say, it does the job and makes changing the shoes on the wire spring type drum brakes much easier.

Pros.Made removal of spring easy.Cons.Did not work well with re installation of springs. Tool kept collapsing and became bothersomeScrewdriver method worked best.Overall.Yes easy to use when removing.Difficult to use when installing.Price here was definitely cheaper than the parts store.I'll just keep it in the toolbox since it is used for drum brakes.

If you're doing drum brakes, this thing is a MUST! It takes a bit of learning to figure out how to properly spread it to get it to stick to the backing plate and create the proper angle when it grasps the spring, but once you know how to do it your life will be so much easier. Having this allows you to replace the shoes without removing the spring which is great for removal but it's even better when you finish and can just use them to readjust the spring into the hole to hold the shoes, even if only temporarily while you work on the other side. Can't recommend this thing enough! It may not be easy to use, but you will love it.

Tricky to use, but once you get used to it, it did the job.

This tool is worth every penny. After doing a single spring brake job at work one time, without this tool, I immediately purchased it. In fact I tried to find one locally at the auto parts store the day of the brake job, but no one keeps it in stock. So I suffered through the brake job with pliers and swear words. But since buying this I got a few more Chevy trucks in with the single spring, and I was amazed at how much easier this tool made it. It only takes a minute to set up, and release the spring from the brake shoes. The tool stays in place, holding the W spring while you remove and replace the shoes. Once everything is in place, unscrew the knobs on the tool, and watch the spring set back down so easily in its place. As cheap as this tool is, it is not worth not buying it. Even if you use it once, it is worth the money.

Excellent product for doing single spring rear brakes.Since the heavy duty spring is used to secure the shoes against the backing plate, it must be pulled away and held in position so as to allow its removal and installation. This is exactly what this tool does.Further, the starwheel adjuster and self-adjusting lever can be installed while the spring is held in place.(saves struggling with the spring).I am happy with this purchase since this tool will come in handy in the future.and would recommend this tool to anyone who works regularly on this type of braking system.
