This padded arming cap is part of an under-armor suit, with an aketon or gambeson to support and provide padding for the metal armor (mail or plate) you'd wear on the outside.All cotton canvas, it feels tough and durable. The stitch lines are solid and secure.It's a bit stiff at first, and the corners want to fly out to the sides, but after wearing it tied under your chin with a chain mail coif over it for a few hours, the sweat and heat will help give it a more head-conforming shape.If you're looking for a quality arming cap for under $20 for LARP or SCA or other reenactment use, this is a pretty good option.

The coif is protective and padded well. It matches well with my Lords of Battle chainmail and gives you that medieval crusader tank feel.It can get hot since ot it is very padded, but the protection it provides is worth it. Fits me pretty well. (My head size is considered large, approximately 23 inches in circumference.

Great material… good fit… thick padding.This arming cap is made of good material (cotton/canvas), providing a surprisingly comfortable fit. The dense padding allows for a chain coif to sit easily over the head, as well as a helmet without a built in liner. It was “smaller” and tighter fitting at first, but through some use and sweat it’s molded to my head and fits very comfortably now.I wouldn’t be surprised if this protected the head (minus the face) well in a reenactment setting, given the quality and dense material there is. **NOTE: that I’ve not tested that myself and am going based on the “play” and experimenting I’ve done with it > without exposing myself to the consequences of full contact sport.

I got this cap because I've got a costume headpiece that I built last year that's heavy and a bit painful to wear. I was hoping that this might relieve some of the pain points.When I received it, I was very impressed by the feel of it. It was far more solidly padded than I expected. I've gotten to try on some high end gambesons that some SCA friends hand made, and this reminded me very much of those. It seemed like a high quality piece.It was comfortable to wear, it fit me snugly but not tight. It felt right. It worked very well with my costume - it protected me from the parts that were pressing down on my head and it partially eliminated the slop that the headpiece has - it doesn't move around nearly as much as it did before. With a bit of additional foam on the sides, it's perfect. The only downside is that with the padded cap, it's much warmer.I'm very happy with this cap, it exceeded my expectations.
