I had only one disk, and one on order, so I setup my system with a raid0.When the second disk arrived I simply converted to Raid1, no OS changes needed.I am working with it from Linux without any problems.I do wish there was a thermal sensor on the card accessible from Linux.

The Positives:I installed this in a old Dell Precision workstation to add a 500GB RAID-1 SSD mirror. The installation was very simple and it works just fine. The only hitch was the CD that came with the hardware does not have any drivers. After some research I was able to download the drivers from LSI's website. I recommend adding the LSI battery backup for this RAID card. The Negatives:The interface of the RAID Setup Utility is very clunky and looks like a flashback from AD 1975. LSI might want to consider bringing it to at least the current century. The RAID management software also is functional but not very well designed. But it does the job and you can setup email alerts etc.

The Configuration Wizard Menu made this one of the easiest cards to setup I have ever used. It supports the world of Raid options, and some others once you have the following:1. Back Battery: LSIIBBU07 Battery Backup for 8880EM2 ROHS62. SSD Hard Disk to Use for Cache.I Recommend a Raid 5 (3 x SATA / SAS) with a 128/256GB SSD.

It has been my experience with LSI products that they are no-nonsense and very reliable. This RAID card is no exception. I bought this to convert our company's server to RAID 10. It is easy to install and did not give me any problems in the few months that I've had it. I'd like to mention that any RAID or server related upgrades should only be attempted by someone familiar with this type of setup. This is not a simple plug and play type of deal that you'd have with a single hard drive in a desktop computer. For those that are comfortable doing this themselves, there are plenty of guides available on the internet. 5 stars
