Hand tillers are very useful to break up grass and soil when starting a garden. This unit is shipped as 4 pieces; handle, extensions 1 and 2, a welded tiller head and minimal instructions. All hardware is included, and as in the picture, the 4 pieces attach via 3 pairs of bolts that are tightened using an allen wrench and hex wrench. Unfortunately, the hole spacing for each pair of bolts appears to be random which means that it is impossible to assemble if you don't get the pieces in the right configuration. It also means that the instructions to "decrease the connecting rod" to shorten the tiller will not work. Better design or quality control would simply have made all the bolt pairs the same spacing so that configuration order doesn't matter. Also, 3 additional extra long bolts were supplied separately without instruction, possibly because the company realized that the originally supplied bolts don't work for assembly.I've used hand tillers before but never one assembled from 4 pieces. Tightening as best I can, there is play between pieces and a lot of twisting at the tiller head. I'm not sure how long this will last under moderate to heavy use; the difficulty assembling doesn't inspire confidence.

Assembling this hand tiller was a bit challenging, with some frustration aligning screws, washers, and parts. However, once assembled, it feels sturdy and performs well in our raised garden beds. While I wouldn’t recommend it for breaking new ground or tilling undisturbed soil, it’s effective for mixing in organic material and preparing existing beds. Overall, it’s a solid tool for maintaining garden beds, despite the initial assembly hurdles.
