The new Manfrotto XPRO Ball Head is the perfect union between innovative technical solutions and design.
XPRO Ball Head features a new triple locking system which guarantees camera position stability, avoiding drifting thanks to three wedges which enclose and block the sphere. Its friction control helps the user balance the weight of camera equipment and, thanks to the two leveling bubbles, fine adjustments can be made with the locking knobs open. Moreover, its new polymer rings have substituted that unpleasant, messy grease, ensuring smooth, accurate and less jerky camera movement.
XPRO Ball Head is extremely portable, lightweight and reliable thanks to its magnesium body: it weighs only 0.5 kg and can support up to 10 kg of payload.

This is my third Manfrotto ballhead. Also my last. I owned an older ballhead that lasted me about 10 years, made of solid metal and very well engineered and manufactured. After it got stolen I got the 492 which lasted 3 years then the ball wore out and it didn't hold my camera very tight. This new ballhead MHXPRO-BHQ2 is large and heavy which is nice, it gives the impression of a quality product, but the handles are uncomfortable to use for prolonged use, they have sharp edges and made of some cheap plastic, also the Main knob, the tension knob and the pan knob are too close too each other so I end up pinching my fingers between them often. In order to tighten the main knob you have to make a full turn, this was not the case with Manfrotto's older models, a quarter turn was all you needed to go from loose to securely tight. Lastly the serial number, model number and even the Manfrotto Logo are made of some kind of sticker that will fall off at some point. To sum it up, the quality is poor and the design flawed for a Manfrotto product. Still better than most of those Chinese brands however and the snapping locking plate (RC2) is still very nice to use despite the cheap plastic locking mechanism. Overall I just wish there was more quality to it and a better design of the knobs. I hope this helps you decide.

I'm a Manfrotto user from long ago. I have multiple Manfrotto tripods, monopods and many different heads for various purposes. When I bought this head, it came with 2 NON-Manfrotto plates; they are ZAIKIR plates. Amazon does not hide that fact; it is plainly stated. What I didn't realise is how bad the ZAIKIR plates are. As you would expect, I have a bunch of Manfrotto DQ plates and the ZAIKIR were just additional plates. Until I used one of them. I mounted one of those plates on a new spotting scope and in the field, I discovered that while the plate was locking fine in the Manfrotto head, there was considerable play instead of a tight lock. That caused me all sorts of problems but I had no other QD plate with me at the time. When I got home, I verified that the ZAIKIR plate was indeed the issue and I thought I would let you know. This Manfrotto XPRO head is excellent for my purposes. I use it on top of an Edelkrone base to hold my spotting scope beside me on the ground when shooting a prone LR competition. I orient it a little bit to the side and tighten down on that setting. I add a bit of friction of the horizontal pan so I can easily look around the target line, but it takes a bit of effort to move so I don't have to worry that it moves inadvertently.I recommend this head. It is well built, and the controls are positive. But get rid of the ZAIKIR plates and get real Manfrotto QD plates; you have been warned.

Great ball head easy to use. Thought I might want a pistol grip- nah this thing is awesome and convenient. Heavy gear locks in solid and tight. Love it. Professional quality gear at prosumer prices. If it was ever run over by a tank and got scratched a little, would buy again.

The Manfrotto MHXPRO-BHQ2 XPRO ball head is built well, and easy to use. I really like the quick release mechanism as it is super easy to use. My older ball head required pulling a lever and for some reason it took considerable effort. This ball head is completely made from magnesium alloy metal so very rugged, at the small expense of giving it some heft at 1.25 lbs. This weight is an acceptable trade off in my opinion. Magnesium alloy metal is the strongest and lightest metal mankind has yet to invent. The ball head includes a two bubble levels, vertical and horizontal. There are three locking mechanisms on the ball head giving a wide range of positions. Manfrotto backs up this ball head with a 10 year warranty.

First and foremost, I love this ball head!!! It is easy to use and works very well. It is close to top of the line! The only reason it is not 5 stars for me any longer is that it broke on me only after a few months. The unit is generally very well made, however, inside the largest locking knob is a very small cheap $0.01 plastic washer. It broke when I bumped it. So I went to the Manfrotto parts department and after a week they did not respond. With a top of the line product images, I was expecting top of the line support and service. So I started Googling and then found the part for sale on another one of their sites for $31.82 (Part # R4190,21). I then realized I can buy a full ball head from another manufacture for less than that part cost and was a bit discouraged. So I took it apart and ended up fixing it myself with a $0.02 1/2" metal washer. My fix makes the product even better quality than the original design. I'm happy now, but if Manfrotto wants to keep their top of the line image, a small product improvement is needed on the inside of these locking knobs. I'll likely buy more Manfrotto equipment as I do love their stuff, but I will say due to the experience I will look around a bit more before my next purchase. If they ever reach out to me or I see they made the product improvement, I'll update the review.

Awesome ball head. The ball locks up after twisting one of the levers 180 degrees. That’s it! None of this continuous-twisting stuff. The friction setter utility is nice, and the panning works well for panoramas. It bothers me a little bit that the levers are all plastic, given that everything else is made from metal. However, this is probably the best bang for one’s buck in this price bracket.
