I've been waiting to review this product. i used it for the first time this morning with a cup of dark French roasted coffee. it works the same as my meat grinder on my Kitchenaid or the old hand crank iron version I rid years ago for electric. Other than my having to take the crank handle to the hardware store yesterday because the bar that hold the wooden handle was already broke across where the pin would lock the handle on the the crank bar, the rest was intact and it was fun cranking it. For someone with not alot of strenth I wouldnot advise getting it. I think it would be a added chore to clean daily without creativity.i plan to use it only for coffee for the most part. There is a plastic piece I still ahve not figured out what it is for so I use a glass loaf dish to catch the coffee. I have it attached to my shelf of the baker's rack.

When I opened the box it came in I expected at least a piece of paper with assembly instructions or something but did not receive such. The body is cast iron but during the casting process it seems that it wasn't quite lined up so when I went to clap it on my counter it was very wobbly and I couldn't use it to grind even almonds without it almost popping off. I used a grinder to flatten that part and when I got it nice and smooth I tried to use it on corn to make corn meal the pin that goes through the auger snapped and now I have to go buy a new one. I'm giving it 2 stars because I think I may have just tightened the bolt too much so that's on me.

It's easy to set up and use. I think it'll be ok for softer grains but it was real hard to grind hard dried hominy that I had. Otherwise I think it will be good for emergency use if there is no electricity.
